Grrr... Steph didn't get chosen.

Our 14 and U girls reached the semis last time even though the full team was underage (Jess - two years, Sian and Jennifer - one year), so they will have a good chance this year.

Laura is the same age as Jessica Ren, right? One year underage?

That's one hell of a trio. I daresay the bookies must have them as favourites.

Laura turned 13 a few days ago, where as Jess doesn't turn 13 till end August. But Laura is 1994 born, so yes, she is playing underage.

I think that Laura is as good as Jessica, even if it be due to being seven months older. What surprises me is the meagre amount of publicity she gets compared to the Ren sisters. Maybe it has something to do with training outside the LTA from this young an age.

I wonder why Steph was in the reserves, she's got a much better senior record than any of the girls who got selected !

I think that the Rens get more publicity because they're sisters and so the press can make comparisons with the Williams etc.

Unfortunately we finished seventh out of eight teams in the qualies in 16s.

The 14 and under team plays from the 16th.

They got a first round bye and play Romania for a place in the finals. They Romanian girls are ranked 8 and 13 in Europe, so it won't be easy.

Woop woop! We won 2-1 against a higher ranked team.

Jennifer Ren [6] lost to Ingrid Radu [8] by 62 36 26.
Jen Ren/Robson beat Radu/Stoica by 62 62.

Hopefully they were just giving Jessica a break and she isn't injured.

Their girls are ranked 7 and 15 in Europe. The girl ranked 15 is the youngest player in the top 80, so she must be very good.

We lost, but qualify for the main draw.
Laura Robson beat Dunja Stamenkovic by 60 63.

Jennifer Ren lost to Alexandra Krunic by 36 26.
Robson/Jess Ren lost to Curovic/Krunic by 57 46.

I am totally cofused over the logic behind such weird player selections. Why not simply choose Laura and Jessica for the singles and then the Sisters for doubles?

Main draw begins on the 23rd. The teams to have qualified for the mains are - Great Britain, Serbia, Belarus, Hungary, Russia, Germany, France and Croatia. We play Serbia in the first round.
