Girls: Condor de Plata Tournament - ITF Grade 2 - 2007.

Starts on 5th February. It's played on clay.

Jocelyn Rae is the only one in the main draw at this moment.
Naomi Broady, Amanda Elliot, Caitlin Steel and Olivia Howlett are in the qualies.

Come on Caitlin. Hope she can qualify. Haven't seen her in action much at all this year. Will this be her first tournament?

No, she attempted qualies in Sunderland but lost in the first round.

I don't think that she'll have to qualify. In fact, maybe there'll be no qualies at all. Many South American tournaments don't get enough players to fill up the main draw.

Caitlin must be good on clay. She trains in the Florence Tennis School.

Giving this thread a boost....

Any website ?

Scott Sears is in the boys qualies. He's 16, son of Nigel Sears. Played 1 tournament so far this year, lost in rd2 of a G4 in Sweden.

Will be interesting to see how Jocelyn does after her great results in the 10Ks in Jan.

South America is one of the toughest places to compete, partly because the officials are so biased towards home players   They give them all the close calls. Why can't British officials do that at our futures and challengers

Nope. Most COSAT tournaments are characterised by lack of sites, scores that are updated once in three days and draws that don't get filled. I'll email them and beg them to give me Dan's scores, but I don't know if they'll reply.

Sadly I don't know Spanish. I guess that many local sites post the scores.

Scott is actually in the main draw.

The qualifying was a big joke:

Main draw:

How bad can your luck be?? Jocelyn, Caitlin and Howelt ended up drawing the top, second and third seeds.

Cmon Jocelyn! You've got this in the bag!

And how old is she? Turning 16 in 15 days?

Yep.

She reached the finals of the Jr. Orange Bowl as a 12 year old, so I'm sure that she can play on clay.

Wow, tough draws

Having said that....Jocelyn's opponent is ranked 1628 !  Why is she top seed ?
No senior record so I think Jocelyn may have a good chance here.

Caitlin will be hard pushed to make her match close, I think. She's got the advantage of having already won matches in qualifying but her 16 year old leftie opponent is ranked 102 and made a G2 final in Peru last week

It says 16 on the draw but that's because they ran out of space and couldn't get the full figure in.

If you look at her ITF junior profile, she's ranked 1628

No, they just put the wrong Maria Fernanda Alvarez on the ITF site...the one who is 16 in the world is playing.

oh

Looks like British interest in this tournament is going to be a little short-lived
