RE: Week 26 - Wimbledon men's qualifying

haha the ice cream was merely an option, and depends on the weather! Basically the ticket is free if anyone wants it (Tuesday)

That said, I am only working a half day tomorrow and was musing about going down around 2pm. It's only a 25 minute drive for me. If anyone is going tomorrow could you do me a big favour and post on here if there are likely to be afternoon tickets available ie returns? Being the first day of charged admission they may well discover that they can fit in more people than previously thought, and there's a good chance that some will leave after 3 or 4 hours of tennis anyway

2 ( lucky if ) to 6 now covered.

It's undoubtably a very good draw, which appears to give more than we might have expected a half decent chance ( I was going to say sniff !  no ). But still overall tough for our guys, so I stick with my 3, but if it is more, great !!

Also the grass courts are notoriously in poor nick at Roehampton, so that increases our chances.

Is playing on grass against higher ranked players a leveller?

I think we will be lucky if we get two through.

Yes, I think half a dozen of them have a decent chance but I'll be surprised if we get more than 2 or 3 through plus the odd narrow loss. I'd love the more optimistic predictors to be proved right though!

You've got a point. If we were having to put actual bets on, I think most people would be a lot more cautious. smile

But it's the moment for unbridled optimism !

For what its worth Unibet seem to be the first bookies with odds up.

Ed, Liam, Lloyd and Marcus are all favourites, with Marcus being very short odds. Can't see odds for Jay but would imagine he will probably be favourite as well.

The playoff boys all decent underdogs, with Dan Cox given the best chance.

Ladbrokes have odds for Jay and he is indeed the favourite. As they stand now (midnight here, 05.00 BST), the implied probabilities of reaching QR2 are:

75% Marcus
65% Jay
63% Ed
63% Liam
57% Lloyd
34% Dan
31% Neil
20% Alex
13% Ryan

=> E(no. into QR2) = 4.19

So even the odds imply those of us only expecting 2 or 3 to go through are overly pessimistic - again, I hope they're right about that!

Anyone know how I can watch the livestream from the States?

I am guessing that you ask the question about streaming because you can't watch BBC streams unless you are in the UK and have a UK  IP address. I had a similar problem a few years ago. You need to use a VPN to conceal your location. It should be possible to downlaod a trial version without paying, but I can't recommend any specific products. If you have a spare half hour, I'm sure that some Googling will find a workable solution.
