British Tour 2017

Result of the final - another unfortunate retirement - although the outcome would probably have been the same if either match had been completed

Eleanor Dean def Freya Christie [1/331] 5-2 Retired

Freya retired with a calf injury. Ellie impressive again. Has a great all-round game - weight of shot on both wings, good backhand slice and depth put Freya under lots of pressure.

Good news is that Ellie suffered no reaction to her knee surgery ( from the lady herself ) smile

Perishingly cold on court.

4 hour round trip for an hour's tennis hmm

Better luck next time

Did she say why she had to retire in the previous final?

The question I asked was, how is the ankle and she said no. the knee ( which had surgery ), so I'm guessing she was feeling the knee.

Thanks for the update bulletin Gary Denton.
Even cautiously hopeful news of Ms. Dean is most welcome.
Hoping Ms. Christie's retirement was purely cautious, aimed at not exacerbating any niggle prior to a return to ranked tournament matches.

Well after seeing the video last week things looked bad for Ellie but glad she's made it through the week. Hopefully Freya is ok.

The score was 5-7 6-3 retired - much closer than I would have expected, so clearly something not right.

Lisa hasn't had a lot of luck with injuries over the last couple of years

Quarter final results from this morning

Nell Miller def Louise Holtum [8] 6-1 6-4
Manisha Foster [3/849] Ella Taylor [5/1251] 2-6 6-1 6-3

Alicia Barnett [4/1116] def Eden Richardson [6/1251] 5-7 7-6(4) 6-2
Beth Grey [2/739] def Mollie Crouch [7] 7-5 6-2

Young Nell has obviously improved quite a bit since I saw Beth beat her easily at Sutton in August

Louise Holtum is very much hot and cold - Nell is a good junior, but it may be another year or so before she is on the same level as Beth.

Another one that has improved since August, although to be fair, Alicia had only just returned to the UK and competition here

SF Alicia Barnett [4/1116] def Beth Grey [2/739] 6-4 6-1

Yes, I thought Alicia, overall, was clearly about 800 level when she played at the NTC in September. And, playing more pro events, she should hopefully progress.

Well done, Nell, despite coming up just short. Never seen her play live but DavidC posted the streaming link to her a few months ago and it was pretty impressive stuff.
