Week 39 - Egypt F26 ($10,000) - Cairo (hard)

The main draw's not out yet, but it looks as though Jay Clarke's made it.  smile  No sign of Curtis in qualies, however.

Jay was 17th on the acceptance list, so is in the main draw. Even so, today's semi final would have given him an SE if he wasn't.

At a guess, Curtis may have decided to coach/support Jay in his semi final rather that play qualifiers. Otherwise, they may have decided to go home a week early.

Curtis actually got a wildcard into the main draw. Jay has the top seed, though, the top-200 Egyptian !

R1:

Jay Clarke (GBR) WR 1238 v (1) Mohamed Safwat (EGY) WR 198 (CH 187 in March 2014)

(wc) Curtis Clarke (GBR) UNR v (q) Filippo Borella (ITA) UNR (CH 1026 in Jan 15)

Should be a law against top 200 players playing futures !

Be good win though.

Safwat made a challenger final last week. Never know he might withdraw!

Anyone any idea why 17-year-old Mohamed Abdel-Aziz is shown on both his ITF & ATP profiles as holding Egyptian nationality, yet pops up on the IT live scoreboard with a Union Flag against his name?  First noticed it last week.  confuse

It's been mentioned a few times on the junior threads.

His sister is Donia, who plays for the UK (family based in Bolton ? From recollection, might be wrong .....)

But the brother plays for Egypt. Although he could play for Britain, if he wished.

But I think the GB flag is the error.

And a decent chance in the next round, if he reproduces that kind of performance:

L16:  Jay Clarke WR 1238 vs (Q) Leandro Serrano (ESP) WR 1753 (CH = 1748 in May)

I know Jay has been playing well, but I didn't see that one coming. That is a stuning result. Well done Jay.
