Week 30 - Ireland F1 ($15,000) - Dublin (carpet)

Seb Rey must have made it into the MD.

Ryan Peniston may well have a WC (that Irish first name smile). And others too, of course.

Q draw :

Corrie, Milton, O'Mara, Malik, Hutt, Oakley, Strachan, Thornton -Brown, Porter and Rey have all made a very weak 15k

I'm certain the wildcards are for the Irish lads - Gleeson, Dudley, O'Hare, Bothwell

I see a blast from the past is in qualifying - Mr. Gregory Howe.

Ed and Milts should pick up some decent points this week.

Think I was getting Peniston and O'Hare mixed up :(

They're both at the same college, aren't they ?

But agree that it's really pretty weak for a 15k.

As you say, generous points going begging . . .

I thought O'Hare and Joe Salisbury, who are at the same college have now graduated, but I may be wrong. Hence why they play doubles together.

Is Ryan Peniston at a US college?

I think Ryan is at Memphis, with David (unless David has just graduated?).

Nice to see Ed Seator's name in the qualies frame.  smile  He's currently unranked, but has a singles career high of 494 from May 2008, the year in which he was playing Futures events regularly (+ a couple of Challengers & QR1 at Wimbledon, where he lost to Louk Sorenson, of all people, by 2 & 1), even winning a doubles title (doubles CH 426), but following the August of that year, he disappeared off the tennis-playing radar, yet he's only 28! confuse   According to the ATP, he popped up at this event last year, but went out in the first round to Scott Duncan by 3 & 2 & pocketing only $156 for his pains! hmm  I'll be keeping my fingers firmly crossed for him this year.

An honourable mention, too, for 42-year-old Gregory Howe, who has a career high of 1222, also from 2008 (August). wink

Yay!  biggrin  Now for QR2, which is actually the FQR, where he'll play the unranked Irishman, Bjorn ( ) Thomson.  My  for you, Ed.

The synthetic grass of Dublin normally throws up a few interesting results.

victories also for Slalsky and Luke Johnson.

NB Luke is one of the three audio interviews on the LTA page about college tennis, top right

www.lta.org.uk/players-parents/Tennis-and-university/Tennis-and-university-in-the-usa/

Not a great interview honestly - poor sound quality at times and some rather weird questions (who really cares about what the exact format is for changing university?) - but some interesting stuff too, and puts a voice and a face to a name.
