Hi all,

Oops - I thought I'd posted an introduction ages ago... I'm 41 years old, half-English half-Scottish, and having spent years roaming the country programming computers I now live and work in Brighton as a self-employed computer-everything person.

I used to play a lot of golf and 5-a-side footie but now restrict myself to walking, some occasional cycling, and very occasional fishing. I was only into tennis for 2 weeks a year until I heard of Andy winning the US junior open, and have enjoyed following his career since - something I can persue relatively unhindered as my girlfriend, who has absolutely no interest in sport, has her own place.

Would love to see more Brits step up to ATP/challenger level, and as I've never been to a tennis tournament I would like to break my duck this year with a visit to Wimbledon.

Other interests include playing guitar and mandolin, writing fiction, watching green wing on tv, and trying to keep at least one of my houseplants alive.

Snap!

Re. Queens - this year's priority ticket application form guidance notes starts:

""With confirmed entries from Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Tim Henman and Andy Murray ..."

Obviously a lot can happen between now and then (e.g. injuries) but it sounds like Andy has committed to play.

If you can't get cetre court tickets for Queen's, by the way, you can order ground tickets online from April - no long queues like you get at Wimby even for ground tickets.

Tennis-wise, Queen's is almost as good as Wimby, but Wimby does have more of an atmosphere about it.

Steven .. good to hear it! ..alas I am probably still the oldest not-quite-so-young male member on the board, as my birthday is in 2 weeks time.

Steven/Count Zero .. it does sound as though it could be a great line-up at Queens. I thought it might be nice to go for the big one (Wimby) as my 1st tournament, but if getting a ticket for a suitable day proves too difficult I'll go for Queens .. heck I might go for both.

Madeline.. you're welcome to ask if you ever feel like ... - I'll be happy to try and help!

Rob.. the jmr represents my other names - James Mordaunt Rutherford; Mordaunt being the founder of my dad's regiment(the Black Watch). Apparently he wanted to call me Maximilian Peregrine but my mum talked him out of it .. a shame really as I think Max Perry has a certain ring to it.

RedCabbage - I'm on Marine Parade (near the Funky Fish club) .. with a sea view including the pier .. feel free to PM me if you'd like to meet up

Mine was just under 2 weeks ago so I guess you're right.

One reason for going for Queen's first - it's great, but a bit of an anti-climax after Wimby ... if you do it the other way round, you can have one great day being impressed by the tennis and then another being impressed by both the tennis and the surroundings!

Wow! Programming must have been good to you. That's an expensive area! I know the Funky Fish club very well.

I'll have to drag you along to the Eastbourne qualies this year. It only costs £6 or something and you get to see the top brits in action in the quals and the world class players in the practice courts.

Hi andy and welcome

If you can make it, Queens qualies is also great to go to. Absolutely free and you see top quality tennis (especially on the Saturday with both qualifying rounds), loads of Brits and the top players practising.

Surbiton is also a good one to go to, as it's during the 2nd week of Roland Garros, lots of the top grass courts players head there, every year there's a large number of top 100 players and Rusedski has played there several times (bizarrely he's never won it which shows how strong it is !). However, if you want to see lots of Brits, my advice is go earlier in the week, they don't last very long !! (apart from Bogman in 2003 when he made the final and Keothavong who seems to make the semis almost every year)

RedCabbage, did you go to Eastbourne qualies last year ?  Is that where you saw Natasha Khan ?

i am wondering about queens qualies this year. with the new RR format there might be much less matches on show, as effectily the final round moves to the monday and will porbably be a pay day.

Yeah that's true   They should have kept it how it was in 2004 and before with a larger qualies draw and more Brits taking part....

However, there will still be quite a few Brits involved so we need you to go Count to report for britishtennis.net

Do you normally go to Surbiton qualies ?  I think it might cost a fiver, rd1+rd2 are on the Sunday and there's loads of matches as the mens and womens qualifying draws are both at the same time. It's definately worth it and not just for the tennis if the eye candy is anything like the quality on display in Sutton !

All I can say is....Count

Do you usually go and see the Queens main draw matches aswell ?

You should look into going to Surbs, it only costs a fiver to get in and all the Brits from 3-20 will be there. They are the only British tournament to have press conferences after matches ! (though apparently since 2003 Boggo avoids them and sprints to his car as fast as possible )

It's funny how he had that amazing run there in 2003 (beating Karlovic who beat Hewitt at Wimbledon 3 weeks later) and he hasn't won a match since !
