Tim starts the week by surging six places up to WR 32 As he's only defending 5 points from last year, while Gaudio, Vliegen, Benneteau, Chela, Grosjean and Verdasco had a good Australian Open in 2006, they all drop behind him.

However, Tim could in theory be overtaken by anyone down to WR695, Victor Hanescu (including Alan Mackin!!), as the 1,000 points on offer mean that his 895 points are vulnerable to anyone at the tournament.

I've shown all those who could overtake Tim by reaching the QF.

Verdasco and Moya can overtake by just reaching R2.  So they're the coven's first targets for Tim.

Tim's closest threats are playing in the bottom half of the draw- Monday night.

So the matches to watch out for are: Fish vs Ljubicic; Massu vs Djokovic and Volandri vs Gasquet.

Well hopefully Ljuby can do the business for Tim. Otherwise, I think Andy's needs outweigh Tim's and I can't seeing us hoping that volandri and Massu go out this round.

Massu  went out nice and esy to Djokovic, Becker  took five sets and into the middle of the night.

Tonight,  three players can overtake if they win their R1 matches:

Verdasco vs Mathieu
Moya vs Blake
Rochus vs Guccione

Luckily, Blake, Mathieu and Guccione are on form!

also playing are Wawrinka, Gaudio, Vliegen, Clement, Benneteau, Lee, Grosjean, Ginepri and Mayer.  All of whom could overtake if they reached the quarters.

Rochus overtakes, by beating Guccione and having more mandatory points than Tim.

Benneteau, Lee and Almagro do the decent thing and go out.

Grosjean and Ginepri advance.

Moya's lost the first set in a tiebreak to Blake.

Not sure if Verdasco, Gaudio, Vliegen etc will get to play...

Gaudio and Vliegen are heading home!

Verdasco's 2 sets down to Mathieu now

Clement's trading blows with Malisse.

Mirnyi and Mayer are both trailing by 2 sets to 1....

......So not looking at all bad for Tim's ranking.

Mathieu retires, so Verdasco's through and knocks Tim down another place to WR34 (still up 4 on the week)

Clement won the third set, and is 2 sets to 1 up, 4-3 with serve against Malisse in the fourth.

Mirnyi and Horna have just gone into their fifth set. Mirnyi's broken. He's 2-0 up.

Clement beat Malisse. Horna's pulled back 2 games on Mirnyi.  it's 2 sets all, 2 games all, 15 all there..... maybe they're trying to play through until breakfast time?

Finally it ends. at 5 past 2 in the morning, after 218 minutes. Mirnyi pulls through

to summarise

2 players overtake Tim: Olly Rochus and Verdasco

5 players are knocked out behind Tim: Moya, Gaudio, Vliegen, Benneteau and Lee, and two ahead of him: Almagro and Malisse.

6 players advance: Wawrinka, Clement, Grosjean, Ginepri, Mirnyi and Mayer

Tim ends the day down 2 at 34 (up 4 on the week)

The biggest threats  are Wawrinka and Fish, both of whom only need to win their next match to overtake. then comes Clement and Chela who need  to reach the fourth round.

Tonight sees Fish, Bjorkman, Gicquel and Monfils in action. All pins in Mardy, please, ladies!

Hmmm.  Fish won, and overtakes. Tim down to WR35 (up 3 on the week).

On the plus side, Gicquel and Bjorkman are knocked out

Ah well. Monfils won: Tim taking one for Andy, I guess.

Playing tomorrow are:

Wawrinka vs Capdeville. If Wawrinka wins, he overtakes Tim. If Capdeville wins he overtakes Boggo

Clement vs Santoro. Clement would go to 5 points behid Tim if he won.

Chela vs Niminen; Grosjean vs Rochus; Ginepri vs Zverev; Mirnyi vs Tursunov; Mayer vs Seppi. Oh, and Verdasco vs Murray.

Sharp Pins to Clement and Verdasco for sure!
