It's five past one in the morning!!

Russell couldn't hold out in the end: Hewitt gets through: 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-3 6-3

Montanes forced the tiebreak, but Haas ended up winning in straights 7-5 6-1 7-6(3)

Meanwhile,  Soderling  is 5-0 down in the fifth.  Looks like Mayer's going to give Andy one competitor out for the day.

C'mon Robin. stop fighting. time for bed!

Mayer serves up a bagel!

Soderling goes out

Hewitt's the only one to advance, leapfrogging back over Stepanek. That's it for Andy's competitors for today. The table's updated.

Bethan, how can JMDP overtake a second round losing Andy? He has 515 points with an eighteenth of 6. So if he wins AO, he lands up with 1509 points.

Am I making a dumb error somewhere?

So only Soderling gone... never mind, after Andy's performance today ( ) there's little chance of him going out in R2...

No I am. Thanks for pointing that out. I think by that point my brain was pretty much mush...:

My 'what if' posts have been updated. Everyone who went out has been reduced from bold to normal. The whole of the 'out first round' bit has been 'normalified' (what would you call it?) as it's now irrelevant. Hopefully by the end of the two weeks all but the final will have had the same treatment...

I'm pretty sure all the worst/best cases are the same, to be honest I didn't check. I will check after round 2.

Hmm, I'm not too impressed with the new coven: Are you waiting until week 2 or something, ladies??

Ferrer overtakes Andy

Andy's down to WR15

Roddick and Stepanek also advance.

Only JCF gets knocked out

Only until Andy wins his next match

I'm doing my best, honestly, I'll buy a new pin-sharpening machine.

So 4 competitors still paying tonight: we want to get rid of Robredo, Ancic, Baghdatis & Safin. 3 of them are currently on court:

Sela 3-6 7-5 6-4 6-5* Safin one set to go there.
Melzer is about to start against Robredo
Garcia-Lopez 6-3 5-7 2-6 2*-4 Ancic

We suddenly have rain delay, so no updates, except for Safin & Sela, who're playing under the roof I guess. Unfortunately Safin pulled back the 4th set, and now leads 3-0 in the fifth.

rain apparantly. I guess they've closed the roof on Safin & Sela.
