GUA F1 - Guatemala 10K (hard)

An incredibly weak qualifying draw with nobody in the top 1000 - compare Calvia where all 16 Q seeds are in the top 800! All of the Brits have byes in QR1:

QR2: (q3) Ross Connolly WR 1055 v Jonathan Kuhn (GUA) UNR
QR2: (q5) Amadeus Fulford-Jones WR 1110 v Manuel Chavez (GUA) UNR
QR2: (q6) Edward Seator WR 1110 v Ned Boone UNR

At least one Brit is sure to be in the qualifying round and all except Ned are seeded to qualify. I wonder how they'll find a way to screw it all up this week - Ross excepted, hopefully.

QR2 is being played on Saturday.

Btw Robert Searle looks to have made it into the main draw as a DA.

Great chance for the guys. If they can't qualify here they should hang up their rackets

We have two in the final qualifying round, but Amadeus scrapes the bottom of the barrel, getting not just beaten but thrashed by an unranked Guatemalan.

QR2: (q3) Ross Connolly WR 1055 beat Jonathan Kuhn (GUA) UNR by 0 & 2
QR2: (q5) Amadeus Fulford-Jones WR 1110 lost to Manuel Chavez (GUA) UNR by 3 & 1
QR2: (q6) Edward Seator WR 1110 beat Ned Boone UNR by 1 & 3

QR3: (q3) Ross Connolly WR 1055 v (q15) Mauricio Doria-Medina (BOL) WR 1541
QR2: (q6) Edward Seator WR 1110 v (q9) Darrin Cohen (USA) WR 1217

R1: Robert Searle WR 895 v TBA

QR3 is being played on Sunday, with both Brits 2nd on court at about 17.00 GMT.

Seems Mozart should stick to music!

Great chance for Ross and Ed to add more points here!

QR3: (q3) Ross Connolly WR 1054 beat (q15) Mauricio Doria-Medina (BOL) WR 1541 by 7-6(2) 6-4
QR3: (q6) Edward Seator WR 1110 lost to (q9) Darrin Cohen (USA) WR 1217 by 2 & 0

Edward's turn to look a bit silly.  Good to see Ross make it to the main draw though!

R1: (Q) Ross Connolly WR 1054 v (6) Bogdan-Victor Leonte (ROM) WR 572
R1: Robert Searle WR 892 v (3) Daniel Garza (MEX) WR 426

Unfortunately, like Morgan Phillips in Spain, both Ross and Robert got dire R1 draws.

On Monday, Robert is 1st on Court 6 at 15.30 GMT - oddly, his is the only match on that court, whereas the other courts all have at least four matches on them! Ross is not due to play on Monday.

Searle had to withdraw form doubles with Connolly.

Seator and friend lost to the 3rd seeds

How unlucky was Searle! He must have played brilliantly to take the 1st set 6-2 against the no. 3 seed and may have been just about to reah a 2nd set tiebreak.

On the ATP site, it says Ross lost 6-4 3-1 Def., i.e. a default not a retirement. I wonder what he did to incur the ump's wrath?!
