Bloomers has just broken Ebden in a marathon game to take the 2nd set 7-5.

Thanks for those scores Doug What a performance from Mackin !!!! Bladetiger and I thought he had a chance of an upset ! 6-3, 6-3 against the top seed is a brilliant win

Moodie now serving for the match against Baker

6-2, 5-4

Baker's held pretty comfortably in this set but got broken early on. Hasn't really touched the Moodie serve so far, hopefully Moodie will get a bit tight and give Baker a chance

Moodie closes it out

6-2, 6-4

Decent performance from Baker but he was barely able to get a look in on the Moodie serve, not sure whether he ever even had 30-30 or deuce on it.

Match stats:

Moodie served at 70%, hit 13 aces, made 17 unforced errors. He won 77% of his 1st serve pts and 67% of the 2nd serve ones. He hit 29 winners (including serves). He took 3/5 break point chances.

Baker served at 65%, didn't hit any aces, made 16 unforced errors. He won 65% of points on 1st serve and 50% on 2nd serve. He hit just 7 winners. He did have 1 bp but missed it.

From the stats it looks as though Jamie was a bit outgunned today

Given that Sanguinetti is a clay courter (not that this takes anything away from Alan's great win!), Jamie's match always looked like being the toughest.

Great to see Bloomers now 1 set all and a break up in the 3rd.

Yep Bloomers now 3-1 up in the 3rd Good turnaround from him, that final game of the 2nd set was key. Was a long one, Bloomers eventually took it and in doing so, broke for the set. Knocked the stuffing out of Ebden a bit.

Sanguinetti is Italian but he's not really a clay-court specialist. He's done well on most surfaces (hence reaching a best ATP ranking of 42). He's actually had some pretty good results on grass.

Also, these courts are still the 2nd slowest of the 4 slams so it's the best chance for the dirt-lovers to do well at a slam outside Roland Garros. So it's not such an advantage if you do draw a clay-courter

In the first set it appears that Bloomers was a little rusty:

served at 54%, but only hit 1 ace and made 20 unforced errors. Only hit 11 winners and that includes serve !

Ebden didn't serve particularly well either but his consistency was the difference between them, only making 8 ues and 7 winners.

In set 2, Bloomers was still making far too many ues - 27 ! Just 10 winners and 2 aces but he was able to take his 1bp chance to nick the set

Ebden held to make it 3-6, 7-5, 4-2 to Bloomers.

However, Bloomers in a spot of bother as he's 0-30 down on his serve.

15-30

30-30

30-40

deuce

Ad Ebden: grrrr, the Aussie won't just go away

Game, Ebden breaks and it's back on serve in the 3rd

Bloomers 3-6, 7-5, 4-3* Ebden
