A Brit beating the no. 1 seed in qualifying for a grand slam is enough of a once in a lifetime event to be worth a 4 am call, surely?

Mackin starts a run of three GB matches on Court 18.

Loses the first two points on his serve.

I think I'll stop now ...

Just turned the scoreboard on to see Alan has been broken first game. Got to deuce in Bogomolv's first service game though.

Ad Bogomolov

Alan seems to have found his feet and has just broken serve. Still trails 3-1* though and has to find another break.

Alan holds and breaks again. 5 games in a row now and Alan serves for the set at 5-3

Set to Mackin. This would be another fantastic win if he can hold on here. Would get the night off to a cracking start.

Mackin won 9 out of the last 10 games since losing the first 3 in a row!

Mackin wins 6-3 6-1. Dominant performance from Alan. Next up is number 18 seed Federico Luzzi. Think it's going to take another great performance to make the main draw but the way he's playing I wouldn't put it past him.

Just looking into Luzzi a bit more, he's ranked 137 and last year he made the main draw of the Aussie Open as a Lucky Loser and beat Juan Antonio Marin in the first round before losing to Coria in the second. Him and Mackin have met twice and both times Luzzi won comfortably, 6-4 6-4 and 6-4 6-3, although the last meeting was in 2005. Hopefully Alan has improved enough to make a better game of it this time. Also, both meetings were on clay, maybe this surface will suit Alan better.

Nice stuff there.

I reckon that he has a good chance against Luzzi.
