Australian Open Qualifying (women)

QR1: Anne Keothavong v Junri Namigata (JPN) (the winner is likely to have to play no. 1 seed Kateryna Bondarenko, unfortunately)

QR1: Katie O'Brien v Yanchong Chen (CHN) (winner to play (q24) Margarita Chakhnashvili (GEO) or the infamous Nastya P)

QR1: Melanie South v (q10) Timea Backinsky (SUI) (Baczinsky is the top seed in this section)

No realistic chance of any of them qualifying by the looks of it, but at least two of them have managed to avoid seeds in the 1st round.

Bad draws for the girls.

Those draws suck to be quite honest.

The LTA should stage a mass protest, launch an official complaint and demand better ones on the grounds that if not, Scud and Todd Reid won't get any more wildcards in the grass season

It'd never work, they'll call our bluff and the LTA will give the wildcards anyway becuase none of the Brits are 'winners' (or 12years old by the way things seem to be going...)

They're both serving really poor, even though South won 1 more point than her opponent on 1st serves! importantly, her opponent is creating more chances on her 2nd serve than South, so South needs to serve very well to hang in there.

At least Mel is still fighting at the moment. Just saved the third break point against her in this game..

Win or lose, Mel deserves a lot of credit here. I thought she might get bagelled when she was broken in first game of the set. Then at 2-0, she faced 3 break points and saved all of them and eventually got back level. Looking bad now but hopefully she can come back.
