Well, it looks like evryone who's anyone around Tim is playing this week: 12 players from Rochus down to Wawrinka could overtake him
On the plus side, Tim gains two places as the week begins when Rochus & Wawrinka's week 2 points from last year drop off. He starts the week up 2 at 36.
No- one can overtake by reaching round 2
Wawrinka and Vliegen need to reach the Auckland QF to overtake. They are scheduled to meet in R2.
Rochus (in Auckland) and Melzer (in Sydney) need to reach the semis to overtake.
Massu(Auckland), Clement and Volandri(both Sydney) need to reach the finals.
Fish and Simon(Auckland) and Moya, Lee, Santoro and Mathieu(Sydney) need to win their tournaments.
Of these 13, a max of six can actually overtake.
So worst case is WR42 (down 4). Best case is WR 36 (Up 2)
Tonight has Lee playing Tursunov and Volandri playing Becker in Sydney, and Vliegen playing Tipsarevic, Rochus playing Nieminen, and Simon playing Bracciali in Auckland.
Pins in please!
Edit: Added Santoro in Sydney: 13 ratheer than 12 threats.
Tursunov withdrew for some reason; Lee played, and was beaten by, LL Korolev. Also, Seppi replaced Joachim Johansson and Kim replaced Malisse. 3 lucky losers!
Vliegen beat Tipsarevic 7-6, 6-0. I did think that Tippy would win that one, first set was very close. He has a bit of a short fuse so maybe it blew after losing the breaker, especially with knowing that he'd have to spend another 90 min + grinding in the heat in order to win.

- From what I can tell, there's no advantage to being a top 8 seed: they assign seeds 17- 32 at random to the 16 qualifying groups. However, it would help his chances of getting a Lucky Loser spot (from looking at the rlebook, it seems the lottery method for selecting LLs isn't happening any more?)
With Lee going out, there's now a maximum of five players from the 8 still playing who can overtake Tim. So worst case now is 41 (down 3 on the week). Best case is still 36 (up 2).
Tonight sees Melzer (vs Santoro), Moya (vs WC Bourgeois) and Clement vs Mathieu (we want Mathieu to win) playing in Sydney, as well as Benneteau ahead of Tim.
Number 1 threat, Wawrinka (vs Almagro), as well as Massu (vs Ferrero) and Fish (vs Kendrick) play in Auckland, as well as Calleri, Almagro and Chela ahead.
Let's see if we can knock another four out - ideally Wawrinka, Melzer, Massu and Clement. Are you up to it, ladies?
5 of the seven threats playing tonight. Let's see how many we can knock out for Tim!
Tonight sees Tim's number 1 threat, Wawrinka play Almagro in Auckland. Massu(vs Ferrero) and Fish(vs Kendrick)are also playing there, as are Chela and Calleri ahead of Tim.
In Sydney, number 4 threat, Melzer, plays Guccione and Moya plays Verdasco.
