With Murray reaching the final of Doha in his 1st tourney of the year, he has entered the Race for the Masters! (still very early days i know!). Many on the board says he is ranked as no.4 in the Race, but isn't he no.2 behind Lujbo due the difference in the points offered for Doha compared to Adelaide and Chennai?
Mods: You have my permission to move this thread to the Andy's ranking section if you want thanks!
I'm not too sure how the ATP treat tied points in the race, but it is possible that they would put winners above a runner-up in the event of a tie, which would make him 4th. Just a suggestion. We'll know on Monday!
I have trawled the ATP rulebook until my head is spinning. There are rules for separating tied players, as for the entry rankings, by taking into account the quality of the tournaments counting, but nothing about how the first week is split when all the tournaments are of equal ranking. We will just have to wait until Monday - unless anybody else knows.
The highest we've had was Henman who reached no 2 in the Race back in 2002. He won ATP Adelaide in week 1 and dropped down after the AO but he got back up again to no 2 during a fab run from March-April in which he made the Indian Wells final, rd4 of Miami and the semis of Monte Carlo. Incidentally, that year we had two players in the top 5 for a short while after Rusedski won ATP Auckland in week 2.

And of course we have two players in the top 100 of the ATP singles race, with Macca at 91
