Qualifying Rd 1 results

Ian Flanagan (GBR) bt (4)Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) in 3 sets not sure of score

Didn't Ryderstedt beat Flanagan last week? A case of revenge perhaps! Marvelous result anyway, hope he can make the main draw after that.

I'm not so sure Lee Childs will think his draw is OK - Crazy Dani!

QR3: Ross Hutchins WR 703 v (q7) Sergei Bubka (UKR) WR 371
QR3: Ian Flanagan WR 658 v Alexandre Renard (FRA) WR 420

Given the draw, it's amazing that we've even got two players into the final qualifying round.  Neil was the unluckiest player of the day - he must have been exhausted after his hard-fought win against no. 1 Q seed Bash-a-lot and after taking the 1st set 6-2 against Hutchins, he lost the 2nd and then finally ran out of steam at the end of a very tight tiebreak which he lost 9-7. No wonder Wallace on the GRMB says Neil was a bit angry at the end!

Congratulations to Ross though, and to Flan, who must have survived match points against all-Brits-except-Boggo-killer Ryderstedt in the 2nd set tiebreak before winning it 10-8 and then running away with the 3rd set.

On Monday, Ross is 1st on Court 1 at 11.00 GMT, followed by Flan.

Main draw with comparative rankings

R1: (WC) Edward Corrie WR 1421 v (4) Tomas Cakl (CZE) WR 180
R1: (WC) Chris Eaton WR 778 v Jeff Salzenstein (USA) WR 357 (winner to play winner of the match below)
R1: (8) Richard Bloomfield WR 218 v Andrea Stoppini (ITA) WR 240
R1: (WC) Matt Smith WR 656 v Michal Przysiezny (POL) WR 246
R1: (6) Josh Goodall WR 205 v qualifier (winner to play winner of the match below)
R1: (WC) Lee Childs WR 413 v Daniel Koellerer (AUT) WR 232

They've let mad Dani into the UK! If you're close to Wrexham, probably worth going just to see what he gets up to - he wa actually banned from ATP events for a while for persistent bad behaviour! Needless to say, Nathii, having played nanny to him one week at a Polish Challenger, fancies him to bits!

hmm, not really, boggo did beat rder 3 & 1 in shewsbury recently.

you have to feel for the players on 2 day matches, those who get tougher 1st rounds really are at a disadvantge, bammy playing 6 sets in a day, no wonder he was kanckered!!

Do qualifers still get a point in challengers or was that changed? Do they need to win a match now??

oh yeah - well spotted johnny.

I would assume that qualifers get points for qualifying but not 1st round points, maybe they have uped the points  for qualfiying to compensate?
