Cavaday is the ninth seed and plays a qualifier in the first round. The other seed in her eighth is Reka Zsilinska. According to WTAW people, Zsilinska is extremely erratic in style and makes loads of unforced errors. Naomi must have improved a lot since she last played Juniors, so I think that Naomi will win. World number five Sharon Fichman could be her opponent in the quarters. I don't know if Naomi has improved enough to beat top ten players....
Naomi's likely semis opponents would be Nikola Hofmanova or Tammy Hendler. They both boast the tags of "there-is-no-one-younger-ahead-in-the-rankings-so-watch-out-for-me", and hence it'll be really difficult.
Naomi has struggled against world class Juniors like Ula, Paszek etc. so she'll need to play really well to make it past the quarters.
Naomi goes for the highly rated young Belgian, Tamaryn Hendler. I don't really know if Tammy has a game to make it big on the women's Tour, but she seems all set to create some big fuss in the Junior circuit very soon. They are the sixth seeds.
Jade goes for Valena Pulido-Velasco of Mexico and they are the eighth seeds.
Cavaday [30] beat Andreea- Roxa Vaideanu [157] of Italy by 76 62.
Third round:
Cavaday [30] beat Emiko Ito [60] of Japan by 61 61.
Great results for Naomi. And the great news is that Fichman has been upset. She plays Ling Zhang of Honk Kong instead. Zhang is ranked 79 with a career high of 35 . She is ranked 672. Naomi will be the clear favourite for this match.
Hofmanova beat Hendler in the third round and it's pretty likely that she'll be Naomi's opponent in the semis.
Naomi and Hendler lost their doubles match, but Jade and Pulido-Velasco are through to the quarters.
Nikola Hofmanova had to retire from her quarters match!
Naomi won comfortably with a 62 64 scoreline.
Semifinals:
Naomi Cavaday [30] vs. Keistina Kucova [20] of Slovakia. Arina Rodionova [51] of Russia vs. Petra Martic [40] of Croatia.
Kucova can prove to be difficult as she has been in brilliant form in the last few days. She reached the finals last week and double bagelled a top 100 player out here. She has a career high of 13 and is a year younger than Naomi. Naomi has had loads more women's exposure than her as she is ranked a lowly 1276 from three tournaments she has played in. They've played just the once - in Wimbly Juniors, when Naomi won 63 75. I suppose that Ms. Cavaday can play on all sorts of surfaces so she must have a good chance out here.
Luck is clearly with Naomi in this tournament as Ksenia Milevskaya was knocked out a few rounds ago. None of the players in the other semis are as impresive as her and she has beaten both of them before.
Her first ever G1 title may not be far away, in my opinion.
Good fightback from her opponent after Naomi stormed through the first set.
Well, it was a good week in any case as she dominated all her earlier matches. Kucova is in the form of her life and Naomi gave her a good match. Hopefully she will get a good draw next week and go deep into the draw.
