Would be interested to see Slabba v Bossel match. I enjoyed watching Bossel yesterday, not got loads of power but he is an interesting left handed player. He's 20 but looks about 17 or 18, if he grew stronger I reckon he could be a good player, could be a very interesting match.
Having looked at his record he has hardly played outside switzerland and so I wouldnt read too much into that ranking he beat an Aussie ranked 700 in qualies, and I think he'd be capable of making top 5-600 for definite if he played the tour regularly.
Out of interest, what would you say Bossel's strengths and weaknesses are ? Is he just very solid and consistent from the baseline ? Kalaitzis (who lost 2 and 2 to Bossel) is quite a flashy player so unforced errors were probably his undoing.
Yeah it sounds like it will be an interesting match (though of course I'm hoping that it won't be and Slabba will brush him aside 1 and 2, lol !).
Slabba's been serving a lot better than in the autumn so far this week. That was his undoing in the autumn, wasn't serving well and came up against tough players on fast surfaces, where holding your serve is vital. He's a big hitter off both wings but a bit straight up and downish at times. Robxon feels that he needs to work on using the angles a bit more and possibly mix things up.
How do you feel they will match up ? This Bossel geezer sounds a bit like some of those Americans who go the collegiate route and only have a few points but are much better than their ranking.
Out of interest, what were your impressions of Slabba when you saw him in 2005 ?
I don't particularly hold out much hope for Rice against the big serving Swede Ryderstedt. Think that one could be a bit of a mismatch.
Childs v Kennaugh is going to be really interesting. They've never played before. Childs is ranked about 300 places higher and has the better game for indoor acrylic with his serve and forehand. However, Kennaugh beat Marray indoors and nearly beat Mackin last year so he's got the game to cause an upset.
Rushby also has a good draw. Italian clay-courter Fabio Colangelo who's ranked 571. In 2006 he made 2 futures finals, 3 semis and 6 quarters - all on clay.
By the way, the tournament office will give score updates if you ring them. I'm unable to do so till later this afternoon. If anyone's interesting in ringing for updates on Childs-Kennaugh or Rushby-Colangelo, the number is: 01142 351752

Glad to hear Slabba seems to have turned the corner, hopefully he should have enough to beat Bossel. Bossel only has 1 Ranking point so he's bound to be nervous having got this far, seems to have started games slowly and lost first set of his last games before winning so I'm hoping Slabba can get na early lead and then dominate from then on.
Bossel is a left hander with a decent forehand, not a fantastic mover but solid on the volley on occasions when he goes in.
He is fairly frail but hits the ball sweetly and likes to pass people looked like he quite liked to have a target at the net and pulled off a couple of great lobs as well as passing shots.
Cant remember too much about Slabba but he was playing with confidence in 2005 and seemed to have an all court game with a fair bit of power but it was a fair while ago and Ive slept since then. :)
Thornley played well apparently Slabba not on court yet, i might go over and see it for a bit so if anyone wants to update scores text me and let me know.

Wow, that's a great win for Kennaugh ! Didn't expect that one. That'll make Drew's day !
Opening here for Slabba maybe.
Hopefully Rushby can hold on for the win, will be a great result if he does it.
Bladetiger's gonna text Slabba scores so I'll post them here when they come through.
Great win for Rushby, he plays French 6th seed Thomas Oger in rd2. Oger beat Milton today. Oger's ranked 367 and is a clay-courter so maybe a chance for Rushby to make the quarters. He's won 8 straight matches now.
Having said that, Oger had some quality results indoors in 2006. 3 futures finals and a challenger quarter-final in Grenoble. He beat Auckland and Fleming aswell.
Great news just come through from Sheffield....
A Slabinsky [GB] bt A Bossel [Swi] 7-6[2], 6-2
It's Slabba v Kennaugh in rd2. 3 points at stake for a quarter-final place, will be interesting. They played in Jan 2006, Slabba won 6-3, 7-5.
Rice lost the first set 6-2 against Ryderstedt. Bladetiger is watching, will be interesting to hear how he rates Rice.
Lol, I don't know much about Kennaugh's game style so I can't really predict. Given his superb win over Childs, he's probably favourite going into the match.

Or else will attempt to sell you furniture ....
Four British players into round two isn't bad. And a very good win for Kennaugh there! The young players losing wasn't unexpected, but it's good to hear that Thornley was impressive.
