Certainly if he wins his nth Challenger on the bounce he will! - He's just off the bottom of the table. Also there, and worrying me, are Guccione and Luczak, who seem to be on incredible form in Adelaide, and Chiudinelli who's made R2 of Doha.
Today sees Luzzi play Olly Rochus in Doha. He'll advance to just 3 points behind Alex should he win .
Galvani plays Malisse in Chennai. Chiudinelli plays Mirnyi in Doha..
All three went out .
That leaves just Hartfield as a threat within sight - he plays Mazarakis tonight. Come on the Greeks!
Off the bottom of the table, Guccione plays Clement in his second RR in Adelaide; Russell plays his first match in Noumea, and Delgardo plays his R2 in Sao Paolo.
Just those four and Canas who can overtake now. Worst case is 124 (down 1). Best is 119 (up 4)
Grrrr.....Still no news from New Caledonia - it's 11:10 over there, and still just 2 results. Meanwhile MTF has gone down..
The news from Sao Paolo is that the Hartfield match didn't take place, but Delgardo won his match. In Adelaide, Guccione made it through to the QF, so is just off the bottom of the table. Russell's result and the table update when Noumea finally posts the results.
At nearly 2am in New Caledonia, the updated draw came through - they got all the games played again after a rained off day.
Russell won, so continues to be a threat. No update required for the table.
So a bad night for Alex - all four threats survived.
Today sees Sanguinetti playing in Chennai: he's a set up, but a break down in the second against Mahut.
Tonight, we've got that Hartfield - Mazarakis match at last - C'mon Vasilis! also Canas playing Julio Silva; Russell plays Ascione in Noumea, Guccione plays Gasquet in Adelaide - both on great form, but Gasquet's class & experience should see him through.
