Cue a rulebook search.  Good (?) news: it looks like there's no advantage:

6.18 QUALIFYING PLACEMENT

A. Singles
1)
There will be one section, having two (2) seeds, for each qualifying position in the
Main Draw. The first seed shall be placed at the top of the first section. The second
seed shall be placed at the top of the second section and so on until all sections have
one (1) seed on the top line of each section. The remaining seeds shall be placed
together and drawn with the first drawn placed on the last line of the first section, second
drawn placed on the last line of the second section and continued in this manner
until each of the sections have two seeds.

2) The names of the remaining players shall be drawn and placed in the vacant spaces
not occupied by the seeds or byes beginning at the top of the draw.

- the splits you talk about look like they apply to the main draw only!

Yeah you are right...the first 16 seeds cannot play each other but can be drawn against any seed from 17-32 in the final round.

Boggo is something like 22nd Alt so can't see him getting direct entry

As reported elsewhere Jonny plays Dick Norman WR 121 in first round of Chennai qualies, so he is obviously there for your table.

Still an outside chance that Bogdanovic has made either Doha or Adelaide main draw (number 1 seed in both qualies draws were below him in the entry lists) and has managed to change plans to accomodate.

Guess we'll have to wait and see unless someone knows differently.

Naughty Boggo

Maybe he didn't want to go to Chennai after the bad memories of a few years back

Now we know that Boggo is staying home this week here are the threats to his ranking:

Currently attempting ATP qualifying:

Vik, if he reaches r2 of Chennai; Bolleli, if he reaches r2 of Chennai; Moodie, if he reaches the round robin and wins one match (I think!!)in Adelaide; Zib, if he reaches the quarters in Chennai; Peya, if he reaches the quarters in Chennai; Gremelmayr, if he reaches the quarters of Doha; and Luzzi, if he reaches the quarters of Doha.

In the main draw of the tournament:

Alves, if he reaches r2 of Chennai; Mello, if he reaches the final of Sao Paulo; Hartfield, if he reaches the final of Sao Paulo; Fraile, if he reaches the final of Noumea; Canas, if he reaches the final of Sao Paulo; and Russell, if he wins Noumea.

For Boggo this week:

So best case: 119 (+4)
worst case: 131 (-12)

So probably best to get those pins out!
