A great start to the year for Tim, with Vliegen, Malisse and Volandri all dropping behind him as the points they are defending from last year drop off. That said, pretty much everyone on the table down to Mirnyi has a chance of overtaking Tim if the results go their way.
Bethan, I'm sure, will give us a way more detailed view between now and the start of the season!
Tim isn't playing this week which makes it slightly easier to show what can or can't happen although less easy to lay out so here goes:
The following people can overtake:
Julien Benneteau, by reaching theqf in Chennai. Kristof Vleigen by reaching r2 in Doha. Jurgen Melzer, by reaching the qf in Doha. Arnaud Clement, by reaching the sf in Adelaide. Xavier Malisse, by reaching the sf in Chennai. Filippo Volandri, by reaching the sf in Doha. Hyung-Taik Lee, by reaching the f in Doha. Gilles Simon, by winning in Adelaide. Carlos Moya, by winning in Chennai. Paradorn Srichaphan, by winning in Chennai. Jonas Bjorkman, by winning in Doha. Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo, by winning in Doha. Max Mirnyi, by winning in Doha.
So, for Tim in week 1,
Best case: 36 (+3) Worst case: 46 (-7)

While Andy's worrying about those playing in Adelaide tonight, Tim's going to be mainly focussed on goings- on in Doha.
Number two threat, Melzer (against qualifier Luzzi), along with Lee(vs DavyD),Moya, Srichaphan, Bjorkman, Santoro and Mirnyi are all playing there tomorrow. (Any spare pins left after the overnight stickings to be jabbed in here!)
In Adelaide, there's Mathieu and Mayer to be concerned about.
Ahead of Tim, Wawrinka, Almagro and Rochus are all playing.
