They have depth in numbers.... They have the world no 3 and a further 3 players within the top 30. Add another 2 ranked in the top 100 and you can see something works for the Russians.
Desire
What a way out from the ordinary life that could be for them. Okay they have a huge population (143 million give or take a cossack or two) so they should produce top players.
You need talent of course but desire and drive and even arogance maybe needed to suceed.
Bogdanovic could and should already be top 100 IMO. Its only in the last 18 months that he has knuckled down and put in some real hard work and found a drive.
Murray has all the drive he needs
Whatever Andy Murray lacks in skill he makes up for in drive and determination. Some have labelled him moody and arogant...even abusive. If it helps make him great then its okay with me.
Congratulations to Russia.
Hope and wish for a time soon where we could boast 5 or 6 determined, talented and driven young men strutting their stuff on the world Davis Cup Stage.
As you point out, what we really lack is depth. France, Australia, USA, Sweden, Spain, Germany (and the erstwhile West Germany) and Croatia have won all titles from 1981 till this year between them. That's solely because they have had really strong teams.
You can't really expect us to win the title with the team we have currently. It will be tough to get to the world group even if Tim comes back. You need three world class players at least to do well up there at the top.
