British player of the month - November

This month's nominees [I'll set up a player of the year poll soon]:

[a] Alex Bogdanovic - Won the Shrewsbury challenger title, reached the Dnepropetrovsk 125k+H doubles semis. Finished the year as British no 3, ranked 123.

[b,] Jonny Marray - Made semis of Dnepropetrovsk 125K+H challenger [beating top 100 player Potito Starace along the way and then gave eventual winner Tursunov a good match in the semis].

[c] Alan Mackin - Made semis of Sunderland 10k and quarters of Redbridge 10k

[d] Jamie Murray - Made the doubles final in Bratislava and his two doubles wins ensured that Scotland retained the Aberdeen Cup

[e] Daniel Cox - Won another ranking point in Redbridge and came close to making the quarters. Came the closest of all the Brits to making the final qualies round in Shrewsbury

Hmmm, tough decision between Boggo and Marray for me. Can't really compare Cox's achievements [as good as they have been this month] to success in 50K and 125K challengers.

I think I have to go with Boggo [just !] as he had all those points to defend and he got the lot. Was unlucky in Bratislava and Dnepropetrovsk, if he'd had better draws he could have reached at least the quarters in one of those.

Still a long way to go...we usually get 30-35 votes in these polls. Boggo, Marray, Macca and Murray are all still in with a chance.

its tight between jonny and alex, jonny did great in ukraine, but alex did relly well under pressure in shewsbury abd had some great wins (like demolshing rydersthet) b4 battling through to the title.

its hard to compare the juniors with the seniors, maybe we should split to poles into best junior (combined m+f) and seperate senior m and f, as the levels of toughness on the tours are so different. at the moment we are talking about seniors who when they were juniors were top 10, but i dont think the current gb juniors are that level yet. I might be wrong tho, often am

Jonny for me this month, whilst Boggo did superbly well to defend all his points I think Jonny played well above his ranking, completely exceeded expectations and therefore deserves this accolade.

(I wonder if the lta agree with us again this month)

Thank goodness for that, I was beginning to think we'd collectively lost the plot!

Btw after I voted for Jonny, he, Alex and Dan all had the same number of votes. (I think 12 people had voted by then)

I know! I'm as fascinated in juniors and the strides they are making as the next person but so seriously suggest they take player of the month is laughable...

I think that Juniors have an equal claim. We are judging how people do in their level, and how much they are improving with time.

Otherwise Andy Murray should have been voted every single month from January to October. It is ten times more difficult to get a direct entry into a top level ATP event and lose in the first round than it is to win two Challengers in a month.

Dan is very much my player of the month.

I have nothing against Cox, in fact I have never seen him play but looking at his November results he had two wins against unranked British players he had one loss to an unranked British player! and two losses against foreign players ranked 413 & 452.
How that can any way compare with Jonny's efforts I cannot understand, I thought the object was to judge players by what they had achieved during the last month.
