Have u been at the Ariel masters this week Ratty ?
Very surprising results there, quite routine victories for Chanelle and Nicola. If the Rens get outplayed like that in U16s, then I think it's going to be a little while before they'll be winning matches in 10K qualies, I fear that Jenny might be on the wrong end of a bagelling on Monday.
Btw, Jenny and Jessica are ranked no 1 and no 2 in Britain in U14s and U16s !!!! The U16s is obviously not very accurate as players like Steph Cornish, Hannah James, Tara Moore, Laura Slater, Amanda Carreras etc are much better atm

The rankings is only for people who play in Britain.
And I disagree with that - Jennifer and Jessica have had a few great matches against top 1000 players in the British Tour. It's pretty natural they'll fluctuate from their best tennis at this age. While Jennifer isn't likely to qualify, I am more than sure that she won't be bagelled.
OK, I didn't realise that. I thought it was like the national ranking system for our top 50 male and female players which takes into account performances in international tournaments.
It would make sense to do the junior rankings like that otherwise you get massive anomalies like Willis and Pauffley not being in the top 10 U18s and George Coupland being no 2
I doubt Jennifer will get bagelled in her rd1 qualies match but she may do if she gets through to the qualifying round. She's lost heavily against the likes of Claire Ricketts in the past I think.
I didn't realise that she'd done well against top 1000 players on the British tour, that is impressive.
Ah I see, I must have only read the BBC results, that's why I got muddled.
Looks like it was a pretty close match which is impressive considering Ricketts is a solid top 1000 player and usually hammers most of the Brits she plays who are 1000-unranked
Askew seems to have the edge over Sian Bayliss at the moment, she also knocked her out in the February U14 masters. Askew's a harder hitter than the other girls in her age group which gives her a big advantage.
Laura and Steph will play each other in the semis, I think that match will decide the winner of this tournament. Not sure who I'd pick to win, maybe Laura after her great performance against Jane O'Donoghue last week. Nigel Sears rates her extremely highly, she's got a good serve and all-court game, very tactically astute, mixes things up well on her backhand. He thinks she's definately be a top 300 player in the future.

So much for the optimism, she lost in the first qualifying round to Karolina Nowak (900) by 6-4, 7-5.
Actually, I think that is a very creditable scoreline for a 14-year old in her first professional tournament againt a top 900 player.
Also noticed that Jessica has improved her rating to 2.2 ahead of her elder sister who remains on 3.1 - but of course Jessica is too young to compete on the U18 tour never mind professionally yet!
That was an excellent performance from Jenny When I saw that draw I thought it'd be a bagel, but I'm pleased to be proved completely wrong. If she hadn't had such a tough quarter, maybe she might have qualified.
