I agree, that is a definate problem, also given that there will be times when I'll be too busy with exams to update the site for example the last two weeks in Jan and the whole of June.
Would it be possible to set the site up in html so that others can update it ?
It's possible, but I'm not sure what's available. I know that you can get a commercial web development company to set that kind of thing up: a general template to make it look good, and then a web editor that people can log into to do the updates. Whether there's some standard packages out there that can do the same, I don't know. How was the Tiger suggesting you did it?
If you don't mind giving out the username/password there is no reason why trusted people couldn't ftp to and from the site. If someone wanted to update a profile they could just connect and dump the html file.

Hmm - now you're worrying the old fogies among us: I'm not sure that I'd be able to create the html file, let alone ftp it in!

Hey, I'm an old fogie too! Compared to the rest of these nippers anyway.
FTPing can be done using Internet Explorer as long as you know the ftp server and location.
Creating html files can be as difficult or as easy as you like. There's a million "wysiwyg" editors - like MS frontpage - in the world for building them. When I was doing HTML work they were all rubbish and caused more problems than they solved so my html editor of choice was notepad :) but nowadays I think they do as they're told.
If anyone needs any specific (not too complicated!) help on this sort of thing I can probably give pointers - or I work with people who can give them!
I've just found a really good way to do it - use the freewebs html service.
That allows you to basically just do what you want but freewebs will host the site. It's not like the basic service, you don't have to use their templates, you can create your own which is an added bonus. Then once the site is finished we can purchase a domain name. It'll be good, it'll be just using them as the hosting company for the site.
Also, it will allow others to easily log in and make updates when given the username and password.
We need to submit a site title, any ideas ? "British tennis online" perhaps
Site title "British Tennis Online" sounds great David.....got my vote.
My brother has agreed to do any web site graphic worl for free (He is a graphic artist / media type). All we have to do is to send him images, photos, colours, backgrounds etc and a criteria for what u want were etc and he will do several drafts for us.
That's real cool Drew, I thought of having a banner at the top of each page with maybe 3 male British players on the left, "British tennis online" in red in the middle and the 3 female players on the left with a blue background. Does that sound good ?
Who should we have as the players ? Murray, Henman and Boggo for the men and Keothavong, South and O'Brien for the women ??
Re the pages: any suggestions ? Eg with the rankings page, any suggestions for design on that. How should we arrange the Murray rankings tables, Henman rankings tables and Boggo rankings tables ?
The rankings page is vital, of course, but there isn't really any good reason why, to save work, it couldn't just be a link to the lta or atp sites. Unless...as you imply...we can do something to make it more obviously Britain-centric. RobC's "Competitors" threads are a perfect example of what we conceivably could do. But this would be one hell of an undertaking - it's fine as long as someone really thinks they could do something like that week-in week-out without going mad after a month.
Speaking as a british tennis fan, the one single info source I would most love to see would be a british calendar. A list of dates with events, which british players are anticipated to be there, whether they're MD, Quals, Alternates and maybe even how many points they're defending from that week. Something like that would be a moster to compile, I'm sure, but it might be a big attraction.
Sorry if I'm weighing in with my tuppeneth without actually providing any constructive assistance, but for there would be no point in have givers in this world if there weren't any takers :)

Do you mean a link to the rankings pages on the LTA and ATP sites ??
We could do but we post the top 10 British men and women each week in respective threads on here and it would be quite easy for someone just to copy and paste that from here to the site. Maybe to give the page some more colour, photos alongside each name would look good.
Then, underneath that, I was thinking of having Rob's latest tables for Andy, Tim and Alex. These could be easily updated daily on the site by just copying and pasting from here.
The calendar idea sounds really great That would be really popular. I'll create a file for that over the next day and post a screencap of it on here.
Don't worry, everyone's views in this thread are really appreciated
I've been doing a daily-updated table of all GB players on the Greg Rusedski board for a while and I now do a GB top 25 table on www.jonnymarray.net using the same data. It's as boring as it gets this week, but you can get an idea of what it looks like during a busy week if you go to http://simserver.dyndns.org/btz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1374&PN=1 and page down to the 2nd (week 47) post.
It seems to be a major operation to put tables like that on this forum, but if anyone's got a use for the data for the beginning of each week (where players are, PTDs, stuff like that), I'd be happy to try and help.
