Any ideas for the homepage ? Should we have the latest news items for that day on there or on another page.....what else do you think we should have on there....should it go straight into the latest news items or have some kind of welcome to the site info first ?
I think there should definitely be a welcome to the site bit first, not sure exactly what though, so nice and helpful there!
- Latest news for the day is always fantastic. Suggest you make it a headline, one paragraph and a link to the relevent thread, so that it doesn't become a burden. E.G. Today's headline would be: Jessica's Breadsticks!, followed by "Jessica Ren eased her way into the fourth round of the "Eddie Herr" top Junior tennis Tournament in Florida. Britain (and possibly the world's) top 12 year old has dropped only four games in her three matches so far Link to thread
Any ideas for a site banner ?
Not off the top of my head but I'll have a think about that.
I have a problem with the player profiles....there's going to be far too many for a 1 or two player profile pages and there's far too many players to create individual pages for each...any suggestions on how to get round this ?
I had the idea of setting up links entitled "male player profiles" and "female player profiles" and then those links directing to pages on blogspot.com on which I'd set up the profiles....that could get around that problem, what do you think ?
How about a small photo and very short line or so about the player saying age, town of origin, ranking/career best and maybe current/next tournament (I have no idea about websites so that may be too much work to keep up) oh and name of course! I'm thinking like the 'top players' pages on the lta site, but instead of a link to a profile page a link to their thread on here, most players have one I think and if not we can create them. Is that a feasible/good idea? Like I said I know nothing about building websites!
Agreed :- that way we keep the site as a community/messageboard rather than make it really hard to keep updated. We should also link to the player's Wikipedia page - which is a more permanent record - for the bigger names (Andy/Tim/Greg/Boggo/Josh/Alan/Martin Lee/Aucks/Jamie M/Jamie B....Anne/Elena/Amanda/Jane.......)
Rob, I definately agree on the latest news bit - 1 paragraph for each item with a photo and a link to the thread on here would look good.
Please feel free to email, pm or post here ideas on site banners.
For the player profiles...I was thinking of doing it them a bit like the LTA profiles...providing a bit of background info for each one and then some of their best career achievements so far. I'll include links to official websites, fansites, thread on here [or Wikipedia page if they haven't got a thread]. It will take a little while to complete but can be built up over time. What do you think ?
If anyone would like to have a go at doing a profile for a player...Murray, Henman, Boggo, Bloomfield etc please feel free to and pm it to me
I thought of maybe doing one with thumbnail pics of the top 3 men and women on either side of the text "British tennis online". Text maybe in yellow and a blue background.
Bladetiger has suggested doing the site properly in html which will probably be best as it'll look more professional.
The first things is that we need to decide what pages we want on the site [britishtennis.net]:
This is my idea:
HOME INTERVIEWS AND PRESS ARTICLES [could be called something different - basically have links and brief summaries of the latest press articles [+ interviews I do] with pics of the players] DAVIS CUP TALES FROM THE TOUR RANKINGS FORUM PROFILES - would lead to 3 sub-pages for men, women and juniors PHOTOS PREDICTIONS COMPETITION MEMBERS ARTICLES
Please let me know what you think of this idea for the pages [order won't necessarily be the one above], please post suggestions, if you think it's crap I won't be offended
If anyone has any player profiles they've done, please pm them to me, I've storing them in a file on my computer for when I upload them onto the site. So far, I've got one of Dan Cox from Greenleaf
My only comment is that you may be taking on too much if "doing it in html" means that the site has to be edited by just the one person, with others sending them content.
- If that happens, you get into all sorts of timing and organisational problems....
..e.g. if I was late in sorting out a rankings post, you'd be wasting time chasing me, and then (assuming I finish it early in the morning) the readers end up having to wait until late that evening for you to pick up my email & post the table...
The day by day articles on tournaments/matches will go on the homepage, or do you think we should have a separate page for them ? At the end of each article, there will be a link to the relevant thread on here.
The "forum" page, mentioned on my above post, will be a direct link to this site

I agree, that is a definate problem, also given that there will be times when I'll be too busy with exams to update the site for example the last two weeks in Jan and the whole of June.
Would it be possible to set the site up in html so that others can update it ?
