Great fightback from Amanda to win that one, losing the 2nd set must have been really frustrating after holding serve so easily throughout but she did well to get on top again early in the 3rd.
An excellent win over a top 100 player who made a 75K final last week. Should give Amanda a lot of confidence !
She will now overtake Sarah Borwell to become British no 4 and move into the 240s
In rd2, Amanda plays 4th seed Eva Birnerova who's ranked 88. In rd1, Birnerova won her first match since the US Open, against a qualifier !! It's a great chance for Amanda to cause another upset as although Birnerova won a 75k indoors at the start of the year and had a great summer, her poor has been pretty poor over the last few months. Last week she got hammered 2 and 2 by Poutchek who's in the 120s and the week before she lost in rd1 of a 25k to Rodina [ranked 222] - 4 and 2.
Amanda's rd2 match will be on Thursday. Will post OOP details tomorrow evening.
Regarding her ranking....a few good results at the start of the year will see her into the top 200. If she makes the quarters here, she will definately be in AO qualies.
I reckon she can definately make the top 150 by the end of 2007, she's got the ability to beat those players. At the start of 2007 she's got 3 months of tournaments on fast indoor courts with absolutely nothing to defend and then not much during the grass court season as she didn't get any wildcards this year.
Amanda playing Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic seeded four for this tournament. Currently ranked 88 in the world. She played a wildcard in the 1st rd and beat her in 3 sets. So it should be an interesting match since Birnerova has not had a lot of luck lately, she got knocked out in the 1st rd of every event since the US Open.
OOP shows Keen's match on Centre not before 2pm GMT.
