Berlocq won the late quarter- final in Naples, and advances behind Alex. Alex is out of his reach for this week now, though.
Alex is sitting in 128th, down 5 places on the week. So.....The permutations now are:
If Alex Wins the Tournament He'll advance up to 121st - up 2. Norman, Peya, Hartfield and Russell are out .Bozoljac can overtake if he beats Cuevas in the Naples semi today. So worst case is WR 122th - up 1.
If Alex loses the final: He'll stay at 128th - down 5. Peya, Russell, Nav-Pas and Hartfield are out . Bozoljac's already ahead . No- one else can overtake.
Tonight in Naples: Bozoljac plays Cuevas.
(Meanwhile, in Kawana early this morning, Yen-Hsun Lu makes it to WR 88 by taking the Tipsarevic route to easy ranking points: his co- semi- finalists were ranked 278, 313 and 406, and he's now taking on WR276 Julien Jeanpierre for the title. In Puebla, Bobby Kendrick's entered the top 100 for the first time, and his fellow semi- finalists are ranked 292, 410 and 535!- I think the Czech future next week has a lower cut: Maybe one day Boggo will swallow his pride & go out & get himself the cheap points he needs to be able to start competing in ATP events week- in & week- out like Tipsy -now ranked 64)
So pins into: Zverev & Bozo!! (with any spare into Berlocq)
Qualifying for Madras wouldn't be a bad option at all. Qualies in Asia usually means unranked cut offs. And hence there will be loads of players outiside the top 600.
Boggo should be one of the top four seeds, and the bottom four seeds were all ranked outside the top 160 last year.
it looks going to be tight for that DE spot. he might have to quaifly for on of them. last years chennai cut was 121.
..hmm and Gicquel who was at Boggo's place in the ALTs list missed out by 1 place on getting in. Edit: he went on to qualify So it only takes one more person to drop out than last year to get him in there.
I make it 17 players across the three tournaments that need to drop out to get Alex a place - six per tournament - not inconceivable.. and some of those will prefer to take a top qualy seeding in Doha than to travel to Adelaide or Chennai.....
