Tough match for Paterson, Dell'acqua has been consistent in the Oz by reaching winning Mount Gambier and reaching the semis last week at Port Pirie. Becky got a good R1 opponent even though Rodionova came through qualies. Rodionova ranked 506, her older sister Anatasia is ranked 82, and lost against Cavaday's opponent last week in the R1. Jane got an ok draw, i think she played seeded opponents in the last 2 weeks so should beat Haring. Haring ranked 262 and got beaten in R2 by our gal Cavaday at Mount Gambier. We expect Cavaday to beat Pavic but not too lightly! Pavic go to the semis last week so it will be tough.
Stoop a tough match against Viratprasert, but looking from her ITF record, she hasnt had a good year. A comfortable win expected for South. Krix ranked 419.
It's a pity that only two of our girls qualified. But a well done to Stoop and Paterson.
I have a question - what does Naomi need to do to get to the Oz Open qualies?
I don't know about the qualies deadline, but last year, the men's qualy list was due on the 19th. If we assume that the women's deadline corresponds to last year's men's list publishing deadline, Dubai will be included.
It's pretty unlikely, but could someone (who understands women's ranking better than I do) please tell me the chances?
I think its unlikely that Cavaday will be in AO qualies because of her ranking. she has to be in the top 250-300 at least to be in the qualies. If she was to enter qualies of a Grand Slam, i think it may be the French. She prefers clay since has done well at junior level and futures. Come May i think she probably be ranked in the 300, but it depends how she does in the next 6 months.
It's not even remotely mathematically possible. The cutoff will be after Miland/San Diego next week. The best she can do is scrape into the top 300 with a title and the cutoff point will be in the 230's.
