Rafael Nadal has backed Scottish teenager Andy Murray to break into the world's elite next season.
The Spanish world number two has been impressed with the way Murray has developed as a player and believes that if he continues to improve, then he can climb into the top 10 in the rankings.
Murray, under the guidance of Brad Gilbert, has already reached 16th in the world - and has chalked up victories over the likes of Roger Federer and Andy Roddick.
Now Nadal, who is just a year older than the 19-year-old Dunblane youngster, said: "He played so much better in the second half of the season; he improved his tennis and he played with more concentration, which is so important.
"He has a good resolve, so we will see next year how he goes but he will have every chance to get into the top 10."
Bizarrely, two of the brightest emerging talents in the game have yet to play each other in a tournament.
However, that has not stopped Nadal praising Murray's talents.
"Andy Murray is a young player and one of the best in the world," he said.
"If you play him, it is going to be a very difficult game."
Also Kim has a ebo page and andy does links to follow
Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive.... those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience
Firstly, just wanted to say, can you stop all the name-calling please, guys. That applies to yesyesbadboy and John, no need for any insults and I've deleted the posts.
This is a friendly board, we've never had any rows or anything on here, just gentle teasing and I'd like to keep it that way.
Also, can everyone stop taking the piss out of yesyesbadboy please, he's a great addition to this site and has posted a lot of interesting articles and new items on Murray. I've noticed it not just in this thread but in a number of others. OK, he makes typos but so does everyone, there's no need to wind him up over it, just edit the post if you feel it necessary or report it to one of the mods who can do so.

Thanks
Ditto. I have had to delete one of his posts very recently as this has got out of hand.
Everyone should be made to feel welcome here and the point of this web site is to support Andy Murray and British tennis. We all have our favorites and opinions. Lets be constructive and civil as much as possible.
Thanks for that Eurosport article, yesyesbadboy, interesting read.
Those are nice sentiments from Nadal, must be great for Andy to read. I agree with what he said about Andy in the 2nd half of the year, he was playing with so much more intensity and really believed in himself while at times in the first 6 months he looked decidedly lacklustre. Since working with Brad, his fitness has undoubtedly improved and that's enabled him to play with the energy and intensity necessary to compete with the world's best for the full duration of a match.
The top 10 is surely only a matter of time. I reckon he'll be there by Roland Garros, given how few points he has to defend from Jan-May.
How does everyone here reckon Andy would get on against Nadal ? If they'd played in the summer, I reckon Andy would have won. Indoors, it would have been very close and on grass and clay Nadal has the edge at the moment imo.
Thank you very much ultimateshedman. much obliged for your comments.
Although my username might sound like a piss take it is only a bit of fun as i never thought i would become so involved on this forum ,so therefore the silly name. as for typos, i have 4 a levels, BCD, and am currently studying a degree- its just being lazy and typing to fast
I do get cranky but i only mess about , so will leave it from now on
Will continue to look at intersting artices for the webpage cheers, ultimateshedman and drew
Well, after watching Blake defeat him today, I'm convinced that Nadal will be out of the top five in the next two years.
The key is notthing but hitting it hard. I think that Nadal will really struggle to reach the last four stages on hard and grass next year. He still is loads better than everyone on clay, but maybe someone powerful like del Potro could become a match for him in 2008.
Sadly Andy isn't a heavy hitter in the Berdych mould. But even then I think that he will win against Nadal on all surfaces except clay.
good assesment, what your forgetting is the fact that NADAL has a french open and 2 masters series gteed, now that is his main points defended, and wimby of course he will have to fight out to defend. funny thing with nadal is that, people forget that fed was a mid ranked player at 20 and bloomed at 22/23, so you have to wait for nadal at 22/23 before you can judge him properly. Could go either way, maintains his clay form but never makes it on hard or becomes a fed and wins the lot.
As for andy playing nadal on hard , i would take andy, nadal was one set down 4-0 up 2 breaks in second then he won one game out of around 6 so he wilted, which was worrying- maybe the youthful invincibility on hard has gone now and top players know they can take him down.
I think that maturity has more to do with physique and experience than age.
Fed was physically weak as a teenager and made his Tour debut when he was seventeen. Nadal became only the ninth person in the history of pro tennis to win a Tour match as a fifteen year old. It's highly unlikely that Nadal will mature much more as a player than where he is now.
Edit: I was wrong. Fed made his Tour debut when he was sixteen years and ten months old.
