Awww, at least there's two of us in the same boat so we can commiserate I'll miss the first two days of Wimbledon too, so annoyed - I wanted to cheer on Boggo and Mackin, hopefully they both get to rd2.

I have 5 exams in June, the first 4 are during Surbiton and Queens and then I've got none during Nottingham week - so 10 days till my final exam which is during Wimbledon. Grrrr, stupid scheduling, wouldn't mind quite so much if Nottingham was on terrestrial.

Might be able to see some of RG though, hopefully I finish revision by then

Must be in the last century unless steven has made a mistake - 2001 was also 7 !!

AO: Agassi, Clement. RG: Kuerten, Corretja. Wimbledon: Ivanisevic, Rafter
US: Hewitt, Sampras

It was in the last century, but not too far back in the last century.

There are quite a few years with 7s - usually either two Spaniards in the RG Final, two Americans (Sampras/Agassi) or two Australians.

Hope I haven't made a mistake, I don't think so.

Anyway, a BIG clue - one of the 8 finalists was from very close to home. Now that I've given away the year in which the first three finals took place, can you guess (or maybe even remember) where the other 7 came from?

1997 was the year before I started following tennis so I'm not entirely sure, however I'll give it a go at remembering

Wimbledon was Sampras and Pioline. US Open: Rafter and Rusedski. French Open was won by Kuerten [massive surprise then as he was pretty much unknown] but I don't know who was runner-up - Bruguera ?? Aussie Open the following year was won by Petr Korda, can't remember who he beat - Enqvist ?

yeh ur right, except Korda beat Chilean, Rios.

Ah yes, Rios. Score was surprisingly one-sided I remember, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. Pretty crap performance from Rios, he didn't turn up that day.

Knew I'd made it too easy with that clue. Well done, a good team effort there! Just to summarise:

1997 FrO Kuerten (BRA) beat Bruguera (ESP) 6-4 6-3 6-2
1997 WIM Sampras (USA) beat Pioline (FRA) 6-4 6-2 6-4
1997 USO Rafter (AUS) beat Rusedski (GBR) 6-3 6-2 4-6 7-5
1998 AuO Korda (CZE) beat Rios (CHI) by 6-2 6-2 6-2

I remember all the finals well (except the USO, which wasn't shown on terrestrial, of course, but I remember trying to find out the score!) and apart from the USO, they were all very one-sided, as you can see. Korda v Rios was one of those Finals I was wshing both players could lose, and to be honest, when it came to it, it looked like Rios wanted to lose!

WIMBLEDON 5-SET FINALS

1) Only five of the last 25 Wimbledon Men's Singles Finals have gone to 5 sets. Connors beat McEnroe in 5 in 1982 and Edberg beat Becker in another Final that went the distance in 1990, but what's the link between the other three?

2) If a player recovers from two sets down to win a Grand Slam Final, it's always very memorable for one reason or another - the last two being Gaudio beating Coria that way in 2004 and Agassi beating Medvedev in 1999, both at the FO, and after a bagel and a breadstick in the 1st set respectively.

How long is it since this last happened at Wimbledon though?

a) 6 years b) 13 years c) 22 years d) 41 years e) 57 years f) 79 years

... and which country did both players come from when it last happened?

answer to Q1: they've all involved ivanisevic i think. I know that the he beat Rafter in 5 when he won his title and he lost to sampras in 5 in the mid 90s. Im not sure who the other one was against, probably agassi or sampras again?

Yes, well done - he lost to Agassi in 5 sets in 1992 as well.

Any offers on Q2?
