Let's now turn that question around a bit - when was the last time that we could have said "the last four grand slam men's singles finals have involved players from 8 different countries"? And what countries were they? It's not very, very recent, but I don't think this is quite as difficult as it first looks - I certainly remember all the Finals well.
Clue: the four grand slams in question were the FO, Wimby and USO in one year and the AO in the following year.
Good question. I've looked it up and I think I have the answer (though it doesn't show countries and I don't know what country one of the eight comes from - but it's recent enough for me to know the other seven) but I won't put it here because any fool can find the answer if they google it.

Ie players from one nationality claimed Aussie Open, Wimbledon, Roland Garos and the US Open ?
You may be surprised !
Given that clue, I bet it was Sweden - in which case it would have been when Edberg won Wimby in 1988 and I think Wilander (yawn!) won the rest.
Well that's the case for the mens but not for the womens, the USA did a clean sweep in 2001.
The nearest case to a clean sweep in the mens since 1988 was 1999 I think when Sampras won Wimbledon and Agassi took the French and the US Open. Kafelnikov won the Aussie Open that year. In Jan 2000, the USA held all the slams when Agassi won the Aussie Open with a 4 set win over Kafelnikov

Hmmm, tricky one...
I was thinking 2003 at first but there were 7 different countries:
It was in the last century, but not too far back in the last century.
There are quite a few years with 7s - usually either two Spaniards in the RG Final, two Americans (Sampras/Agassi) or two Australians.
Hope I haven't made a mistake, I don't think so.
Anyway, a BIG clue - one of the 8 finalists was from very close to home. Now that I've given away the year in which the first three finals took place, can you guess (or maybe even remember) where the other 7 came from?

1997 was the year before I started following tennis so I'm not entirely sure, however I'll give it a go at remembering
Wimbledon was Sampras and Pioline. US Open: Rafter and Rusedski. French Open was won by Kuerten [massive surprise then as he was pretty much unknown] but I don't know who was runner-up - Bruguera ?? Aussie Open the following year was won by Petr Korda, can't remember who he beat - Enqvist ?
