You may be surprised !

This is a real toughie. At first I was thinking 2004 when Russian women took Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open but Henin-Hardenne took the Aussie Open that year.

Hmmmm

i think in the womens game it must have been when serena/venus and Capriati were dominating so probbaly 2002?

(when you say one nation accounted for all the grandslams do you mean 4 mens AND 4 womens? or just ANY 4?)

1988 - Wilander, Wilander, Edberg, Wilander. Sweden.

It probably doesn't count if you have to trawl through the web to find the answer, but I did it anyway!

Must be 2001

That's when Capriati took the Aussie Open and Roland Garros [beat Cljisters in that amazing final] and Venus took Wimbledon and the US Open.

Nonobadboy, you can't post questions you don't know the answers to!

Given that clue, I bet it was Sweden - in which case it would have been when Edberg won Wimby in 1988 and I think Wilander (yawn!) won the rest.

Let's now turn that question around a bit - when was the last time that we could have said "the last four grand slam men's singles finals have involved players from 8 different countries"? And what countries were they? It's not very, very recent, but I don't think this is quite as difficult as it first looks - I certainly remember all the Finals well.

Clue: the four grand slams in question were the FO, Wimby and USO in one year and the AO in the following year.
