RE: Tennis Quiz questions

Okay, I have one. A five point question.  Please let me know how many points you score without checking for the correct answers deal?

Tim Henman was defaulted at Wimbledon 1995 for accidently hitting a ball girl with a tennis ball. Tim had hit the ball in frustration so was defaulted even though he and his partner were close to victory.

I’ll give you a point if you can name his partner on that day. I’ll also give you a point each if you can name his opponents on that day (there is a major clue on one below).

I’ll also give you another point if you can name the Slam in which Tim has got the furthest in doubles, was it Wimbledon, French Open, Aussie Open or the US Open?

I’ll also give you a fifth point if you can name Tim’s partner at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta when the British Team picked up a Silver Medal. Well done Tim!

I remember his default at Wimbledon so well as I was visiting a library in Berrien Springs, Michigan and discovered a pile of Daily Telegraphs at the Periodical Dept. I found the article in there and thought typical. I had never heard of Tim before as I didn’t really follow tennis. But remember reading about how one of his opponents thought that he could have killed the young lady in question and should have been given a major ban. The opponent, who said that went on to be infamously defaulted at Wimbledon too and ended his career with a 3-1 losing record to Tim. One of those loses I saw live on TV and it was quite a contentious match esp on the other player’s part.

I think 1995 was Gregs’ first Wimbledon as a Brit too!

So, how many points did you get?

These are pretty tough. I'll take a wild guess at Jeremy Bates for Henman's partner at Wimbledon. Absolutely no idea who the opponents were.

Obvious one here is Wimbledon so I don't think it will be that. Hmm, I'll take a poke at US Open.

And Tim's partner in 1996. Greg wasn't it?

After you answer, if you want the answers ask and I'll PM you the answers or on lunch time Tuesday I'll post them here.  That is Montana lunch time of course

Tim's partner when he got defaulted that day was Jeremy Bates.

One of his opponents was Jeff Tarango, can't remember the other one

I think he got furthest in doubles in the US Open

I'm pretty sure that Neil Broad was his partner in the 1996 Olympics. Broad has been one of the best British players we've had in the past 30 years...he made the world's top 10 in doubles and the singles top 100 !!

Got the furthest at the French Open

Nigel Broad was his partner at the Olympics.

The only ones I know without looking them up are Neil Broad at the Olympics, and Tarango as the opponent later defaulted.

My memory is atrocious. Now you know why I don't enter the quizzes!

Jeremy Bates - they were leading too!

From the clue, it must have been Jeff Tarango (or his possibly even more infamous wife! ), the Dani Koellerer of the 1990s.

He used to change partners almost as often as most players change their shoes, so no idea on that one.

French Open, and I'm fairly sure he hasn't played doubles in slams at all for about 10 years.

Neil Broad was his partner in Atlanta.

Another one for you, this time about GB tennis.

The only player in the world to have played more than 100 matches this year up to 27 November was Michael Zverev with 105. Becker, Viloca and Fraile had all played 100 matches, while of the top players, Fed was 7th with 97 (W 92 L 5!), closely followed by the Undertaker on 96.

The most active Brit this year has been Josh Goodall, 47th with 89 matches, with 5 more to add from last week and at least one more this week (unless he's withdrawn knackered and that's why Hutch has got in!), while Andy is 274 with 65 matches - W 40 L 25.

My questions are:

1) Apart from Josh, which 6 other GB men have played more professional matches than Andy this year? (clue: they're all in the GB top 30)

2) Out of the Brits who have played more than 12 professional matches this year, which player had the highest win % in professional matches this year up to 27 November, with 64.6%? (clue: he's in the GB top 10)

3) Which Brit has the 2nd highest win % with 64.3% from 28 matches? (clue: he's not ranked in the top 1000, so we're talking lots of Futures qualifying wins and very few main draw wins)

4) Which player has the 3rd highest win % with 62.7% from 67 matches? (clue: he's just in the GB top 30)

5) Which player has the 4th highest win % with 61.5% from 65 matches? (clue: there's a big clue in the introduction to this quiz)

Have a guess at the answers without looking them up, based on which names you think have been cropping up in tournament results on here a lot, and I'll let you know how many you get right out of 10.

Thanks both for having a go.

Johnnylad got 4/10

VSandhi20 got 2/10

So as you can see, although this quiz is something anyone can have a guess at, it's actually very hard!

Any more offers?
