What caused such a dramatic rankings fall, I presume it was injury ?

She took time out because she was pregnant.

That would affect your swing....

Remainder of R1

Sophie FERGUSON (AUS) (5) defeated Jane O'DONOGHUE (GBR) 76(4) 63

Trudi MUSGRAVE (AUS) defeated Naomi CAVADAY (GBR) 64 63

Georgie STOOP (GBR) defeated Claire DE GUBERNATIS (FRA) 64 26 75

Naomi will be annoyed with that, I think (because she rightly sets herself high standards). Good fight back from set 2 for Georgie.

Great fighting performance from Georgie

Shame about Naomi, that's a disappointing result but Musgrave has had some great results in 25Ks this year and has beaten a lot of Brits. I'm so accustomed to Naomi thrashing top 300 and top 250 players that I'd forgotten Musgrave is actually ranked around 30 places higher. Shows the amazing progress Naomi has made this year, that we all expect her to win these matches easily now. Maybe Naomi herself expected an easy win, took Musgrave too lightly and so didn't find her best form !

Good effort from Jane, as always with those kind of scorelines, you wonder whether it would have been a different story if she'd managed to edge that first set.

Rd2:

Georgie "cutie" Stoop [GB] v Natasha Grandin [RSA][5]

Mel South [GB][2] v Karolina Wlodarczak [Aus][q]

An opportunity for Georgie to take revenge over Grandin having lost to her at this stage last week. Georgie took the 1st set 6-3 but Grandin came back to take the next two 6-3, 6-1 and went on to reach the final, beating Mel South in straights in the semis.

Hopefully Mel can get revenge for Natasha who lost 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Wlodarczak in the final qualifying round. Wlodarczak beat wildcard Shannon Golds in rd1 here [Golds incidentally was Natasha's conqueror in Mount Gambier]

Great to see Mel South taking advantage of her seedings on this tour to boost her ranking.

Pity for georgie, but we must be encouraged by the amount of matches shes winning on the tour considering shes still just about an eligible junior. By the end of this tour she could be top 350.

Hopefully Mel will hit the top 150! Is it Grandin next for her?

QF:

Mel South lost Grandin 6-4 6-0

Well, south's run ended by Stoop's nemsis! looks like she started well, but dropped her level in the second set

on to the last tournament in the Oz

Grandin is clearly the player in form.

I think Cavaday has made the main draw next week so stoop is likely to be seeded v.high in qualifying.
