RE: Shewsbury challenger

I've been enjoying the fun on MTF too.

This really is bonkers though, if they have got it wrong - it's not like it was two unknown Central Europeans with similar names or anything like that - they ought to know who Alan Mackin is!

I thought you might be amused to read the transcript of my conversation this afternoon with the chavette in the Shrewsbury clothes shop:

"Me: Hi, can you tell me the Bogdanovic-Chardy score
Girl: Pardon ????

Me: I wondered if you could tell me the score of the rd1 match between Bogdanovic and Chardy ?
Girl: What the **** are you on about ?

Me: Errr, is this the Shrewsbury tennis centre ?
Girl: No, this is the Shrewsbury furniture centre

Me: I guess that this isn't Amy Gaulton ?
Girl: Piss off [hangs up]

Thanks for that one. I laughed so loud, I fear I may have woken up the neighbours!

Why is Shrewsbury Furniture Centre a clothes shop btw?

Oh no! Bloomers withdrew because of a virus related illness.

Not the way Richard would have liked his season to end, he had a decent chance of making the quarters here.

M-j-d, do you know any more on this ?

Maybe, it's something which has been giving him problems for a few weeks, that could explain the unexpectedly heavy defeat to Andre Sa in the States.

He had only just returned from the USA but as far as I know it developed quite badly overnight on Sunday. There is never a good time to have 'flu but much better now than in the middle of the season I suppose.

thats a real shame - thought he had a chance of getting somewhere this week and maybe finishing the year at a career high.

well at least he's got plenty of time to recover now!

Sounds like one of those virus's you pick up on a plane.

Loads of sick people breathing the same air in and out.

Real pity for Bloomers.

That MTF standoff was hilarious.

Who bets real money on matches they clearly know nothing about, and have no real way of finding out the scores???

So Mack the KNife won! I was gutted when i looked on BBC and it said he lost to Popp.

Also, Boggo will now reach the QF at least becasue he has alan's number.

Oops, I meant furniture centre not clothes shop, I wasn't thinking. I should know by now not to post on message boards at midnight.

lol @ Bladetiger's response

there's some Russian guy who's over the moon on Boggo's site as he had 100 euros on Boggo beating Chardy. He's sent me a load of thank you messages to pass on to Alex

It's going to be strange on Wednesday, when Alex goes out on court and sees both Mackin & Popp there warming up - looks like they both think they won......

Wonder if any of these East European bookies have paid out on a Mackin win? Or on a Popp win?

Haha, I loved Bladetiger's advice on MTF: for these East European guys who bet on Popp to go and quickly claim the dosh before it's corrected that Mackin won

Maybe they were playing without an umpire and there were some close calls which each thought they'd won

Quite enjoying the argument on MTF.

Slabba/Allinson won their doubles match - 63 26 10-7.

Great win for Slabba, revenge over Grambow !! I guess he won't be wanting to stay in the doubles too long though as he's got to get to the Czech Republic for Saturday and he'll want to get used to the courts.

I wouldn't be surprised if he tanks the quarter-final.

Goodall v Stakhovsky and Auckland v Nielsen are on at 2pm. Marray v Berrer follows the Auckland match.

Bladetiger's going to be there from 2pm so no mix-ups over scores today I'm going to ring him for match info and scores.

Nice one! Aucks has the best chance today. A win for either of the other two would be a great performance!
