RE: Shewsbury challenger

What are your opinions on the wild cards?

I am assuming that Goodall will get in as a direct entrant.

Mackin.

Marray.

Auckland.

Slabba/Cox. Can'r decide between the two.

I hope that there will be loads of withdrawals and Mackin will get in. I think that it's time that Dan Cox makes his Challenger debut.

I suspect Marray and Auckland will try to qualify in Ukraine...

Aucks will play doubles there as well to get onto AO main draw won't he?

Dnepropetrovsk is the week before Shrewsbury.

I think that they will choose Dnepropetrovsk ahead of Helsinki. Auckland needs doubles points more than singles ones.

I need to go and look at a claendar before I continue this conversation.

Would be nice to see Cox get a challenger WC but I doubt it'll happen.

People between 300 and 600 will probably get them

No problem.

Yeah, there's not much of a chance that he will get it, but he should. Andy got one at a time when he wasn't good enough to qualify for Futures.

It's not likely that Cox will go and defeat a top 300 player, but he took a set off Mankad on grass, so you never know.

Jonny is playing Dnepro and then Shrewsbury, I believe.

Greenleaf, I know you want Cox to get a wildcard for Shrewsbury but I'm afraid there's no chance of that happening. Wildcards will go to: Mackin, Marray, Auckland and probably Lee Childs.

Cox isn't ready to play in a challenger main draw yet, it'll be throwing him to the lions - he could draw JMDP or Boggo in rd1. In 6 months time maybe, he's improving at such a rate but it'll be too soon to give him one now, I can't see the LTA doing that. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on in the qualies though.

I do have some good news for you though - Slabba is seriously considering going to India in December. I think he's thinking of playing two 10Ks in Israel after Shrewsbury and then the two futures in India to take advantage of the weaker draws. I'll let you know if this becomes definate.

I don't think that Cox will be humiliated at all. He lost a closely fought three setter to grass specialist Harsh Mankad a week before Mankad won the Manchester Challenger.

But yes, it is pretty unlikely. I guess that he will make his Challenger debut in Cardiff, since Wrexham clashes with the AO Juniors.

And that's great news concerning Slabba.

What is? Sorry I think Ive missed something?

On the subject of WC's I think Aucks is giving SHrewsbury a miss as he's playing Aberdeen Cup, I know he's not playing doubles, guess he's not playing singles either.

My guess on the Wc's: Marray, Mackin (if he needs one) Delgado, Slabba but Cox, Hewitt or Dyce a possibility

The fact that he could come to India.

It could be Live on TV unless there is something else that is more important. And even if it isn't, I could call them up and ask for the score.

And Okun neither.

By the way, I don't think that JMDP will turn up. He has played a lot of tennis in the last few months and withdrew from Dnepropetrovsk.

Auckland giving it a miss is good news for me actually. More of a chance that Cox will get it.

I seriously don't know how they can think of giving one to Delgado.
He didn't attempt to qualify for Bratislava, clearly indicating the fact that he isn't much interested in singles.
It will really be a step backwards and a waste of points, because even if he does win a round or two, he will not be able to use the points properly as he will be playing Tour doubles next year.

Dyce must be in the USA now unless they decided to give him a shock wild card into Sunderland. He will play in Eddie Herr International the week after Shrewsbury.

I'd love to see Cox get one (I admit being a bit biased.) but I'm not entirely sure if he will be in a position to accept one. Eddie Herr begins on the 28th and he can't afford much jetlag as it will be his last chance of entering the Australian Open Juniors. That said, winning a round in Nottingham will be a worthy compensation for doing badly in Eddie Herr.

Hewitt hasn't done anything that should give him another wild card. He hasn't qualified for a Futures till now and his best 18&U result is a G4 semifinals appearence.

Evans should be given one very soon. He is said to be a great indoors player, is very much in form and has played well in the past against Auckland and Matt Smith.
