So....it's Boggo or bust in Shrewsbury this week [as has actually been the case in 3 out of the last 4 GB challengers he's played].
Really disappointing result for Josh, draw had opened up with the 2nd and 5th seeds out, great performance yesterday; Meffert's nothing special - good from the back but he hasn't got a big serve and his 2nd serve is very attackable. Don't think it's mathematically possible for him to make top 200 by the end of the year now
Childs did well, outranked by around 300 places and the scoreline suggests it was a close match.
Fab report Bladetiger
Thanks for the info, sounds like Berrer is going to be a really tough guy to beat this week. Must be very draining mentally when someone keeps getting every single shot back, that's how Bubka ground Slabba down in the end. Will be an interesting match between Bubka and Berrer - both really great retrievers. As you say, Jonny was really unlucky to get him in rd1, he could have gone far here. However, still been a superb autumn for him, probably his best ever indoor season by some distance. Hopefully he can keep it going at the start of 2007. We're going to have quite a few players in AO qualies in Jan [Boggo, Bloomers, Goodall, Marray, Mackin, Baker, Auckland], the qualies fields in Chennai and Adelaide at the start of the new season are going to be packed with Brits
A poster on MTF said that Stakhovsky was tanking it [ie: he'd agreed to lose for some dosh], dunno if this is true or not.
Hopefully Josh can pick up some good points in the Czech Republic. He's 2nd on the entry lists for both events and it'll be fast indoor carpet. He'll have about 3 weeks then till the new season, hopefully it's enough time to recharge the batteries. He took 2 weeks off after returning from the States and hasn't been past rd2 of a challenger since July so maybe that's why he feels he doesn't need so much of a break. Matt Smith went on playing right to the 3rd week of December last year which was a bit too much [Slabba could do the same but he took about 4-5 weeks off from August-September], however there have been several other factors affecting his tennis this year, not just burn-out.
Aucks really shouldn't have played here, I don't think he was planning to but maybe like Colin Fleming in Sunderland last year; he got offered a wildcard and felt it wouldn't be right to turn it down. It's a shame as that wildcard could have gone to Slabba or Dan Cox.
If Boggo gets past Popp, Ryderstedt could be very tough in the quarters. He's won 5 matches so far, not dropped a set and has absolutely hammered Labadze and Nielsen. Reports say that he's serving really big. He's a serve-volleyer aswell. Will be a massive test for Siobahn's loyalties aswell. Boggo and Ryderstedt are her top two bedroom pin-ups.

Dont know about whether he got any dosh for it, but a lot of the guys are very tired and the event had an end of season feel to it. Pretty certain he had no intention of winning that doubles match with Bammy and May tho' I only saw the tb, he seemed to be having quite a laugh ,and I think once people are out of singles this week , most of them are going to want to go home.

Nerys had placed quite a substantial bet on Goodall winning the match as he'd heard that Stak had agreed to lose the match.
Do you think Josh will be bothered about the doubles this week or will he just be interested in getting to the Czech Republic in good time to practise on the carpet ? Did his Dad say whether he's bothered about getting his doubles ranking into the top 150 or does he just view doubles as a chance for extra practise and a bit of a laugh at times; like Martin Lee and Delgado [prior to this year].
Boggo has been saying for several weeks now that he's very much looking forward to the season to end. He's had quite a number of things to sort out besides the tennis [eg: selling his car etc] as next week he's off to the States and I'm not sure whether he'll be back to Britain before Wrexham.
By the way, if Boggo gets further in the tournament will Bladetiger be back to Shrewsbury ? Will the incentive to go be greater if Jonny keeps winning in the doubles aswell
Johnnylad, I thought you were planning to go sometime this week, is this still on ? Unfortunately Rochelle wasn't able to make it

No idea, think they've gone deep in enough tourneys to suggest that he's taking doubles reasonably serious. There's obviously at least one DC place up for grabs, and tho' personally I think Josh's volleying will get shown up in doubles at a decent level, he's obviously got some good doubles results so far.
