RE: Shewsbury challenger

so once again only 2 brits beat foregin opposition.

no shame on jonny tho he must have bene knackered after ukraine, and if his shoulder was starting to trouble him you know its going to make it all the much harder.

atp update, pless lost 76 60!! but there are reptrs he may not have been two well. 4 seeds left, but 3 in the top half, shame that only josh and al have any real chance of progression (lee winning would be a miracle to be honest although there have been some funny results popping up) altought a all brit sf would be nice, and i'm sure josh would love a chance agaisnt boggo, i guess he would be considered a big scalp for the younger brits

shame but as you say, Jonny must be knackered, especially as he had to qualify for ukraine, which it's easy to forget given he got so far.

Great result for Josh!

Pity for Aucks and Marray. Aucks should have stayed at home with his wife and let someone else have the wildcard.

Bamford and May bt Stakhovsky and Bubka 6-7(5) 6-2 10-4 That's quality win at a level up from usual.

Doubles drawsheet says Connolly withdrew for personal reasons, Bloomers with the virus.

doubles a bit of a farce this tournie - only 3 first round matches!

i wonder if bamford / may will concentrate on more challengers next yr or pick up 18 points every other wk in the uk?

I think Josh was up first on today's oop so if someone was there they'd have updated the scores I would think.

Might have to scour MTF or ring up or wait for BBC today...

I'm still alive, tho' Ive taken to wearing a false beard.

Big opportunity for someone this week, tho' i think most of those that want to win are all in the same bit of the draw.

Berrer's an amazing retirever, for a big guy he just works you and works you and Jonny was having to hit 3 or 4 good volleys before he won the point, really tough. Both guys were really pumped up I heard that Berrer was dead excited when Big Dick went out and clearly fancied his draw. Shame for Jonny that he gets the inform guy who also wants to win when there looks like a lot of tired bodies out there, hopefully for Josh Berrer will tire as the week goes on.

Josh looked really good yesterday tho' Stak was throwing a droopy one Josh's dad was saying that Josh feels this court really suits his game and that yesterday was the best he's played since the summer, he's really pumped for aiming for the top 200, and is off to play futures in the czech republuic after this. Hope he doesnt do too much. Boggo looked tired, be hugely impressed if he can go deep, tho' he has got a decent draw, so you never know.

I got to chat with Peter Lundgren yesterday who was a really nice guy, and is coming over to work with some of the british guys before wrexham, he was really impressed with Jonny's match with Berrer, I have put more details on the report on jonny's website www.jonnymarray.net

Aucks looked flat, and lost a winnable one, but lots of tired guys there and a big chance for someone.

yeah thats what i was thinking, although going out notts 1st round is almost a week off

it may have been a mistake going so far in the doubles in ukraine, hopefully he should be freahed today afetr a day off. but i think he knows he has put pressure on himself with those 3 1st week loses, none of us predicted that, i think his last week off was after mons where he missed all events, but even b4 there he had been traveling a lot - zooming from the states to thaliand etc.

I've contacted the tournament for the Goodall-Meffert result, should get it in the next 10-15 min.

Meffert had a superb 6-2, 6-3 win over Konstantinos Economdis in rd1 so it will have been a tough one for Josh. Meffert was ranked 208 earlier this year but has slipped down to 325. He beat Marin Cilic in Eckental a couple of weeks ago. He's played Bloomfield twice this autumn, winning 6-3, 6-3 in Orleans but losing 6-4, 6-1 in Rennes. His best results of the year have been making the Orleans quarters and qualifying for ATP Rotterdam before losing to Parmar in rd2.

Yeah, quality win for Bamford and May, given that Stakhovksy has just made the
Dnepropetrovsk doubles final !

They've dominated the futures circuit this year [like Fleming and Murray in 2005] and like the Scots I reckon they'll concentrate more on challengers next year. There's little point in continuing to play futures, they've shown that they're a class above all the pairs in those fields and they know they can beat challenger level pairs, having qualified for Wimbledon this year.

It's a shame that they're in the same section as Goodall and Hutchins again They drew them in rd1 in the Nottingham challenger and they've got them in the quarters here
