Aachen Ch, Rd2 boggo v petzschner

in a suprising result Wes Moodie lost 64 64 to german qualifer phipl petzchner, who won 2 matches in straight sets to qualify abd benefitted from a w/o in the final round to make the main draw.

I am sure Alex will be pleased to see moodie not lining up opposite him tomorrrow, but will have to be wary against the 416 ranked 22 year old, who has shown he is more than capable of playing on his fast home surface. Possibly he found a way to neutralise mooide's serve, and out play him. Hopefully boggo, who is less reliant on the 1 weapon, will fare better.

edit: oh and mackin beat him 76 62 recently in stockholm.

strange top start so late, maybe they are hoping for a good crowd? there are a lot of germans playing.

I think Boggo has a fairly good chance of making it to the semis here. Both Norman and Moodie have been knocked out in in quarter of the draw...although there are a few guys who have made it through qualifying which means they will be feeling comfortable on the surface!

Nevertheless it's a good oppurtunity for Alex to gain some good points and maintain his top 120 position.

Great news! (I couldn't find it on the tournament site yet)  Which takes Alex past Saretta again as well as Hartfield & Economidis,  to sit at WR119.

nice straight forwardwin! looks like he's back in the groove!

draw opened up for him nicely too - Jess Huta Galung (who?-ta) is next, outside the top 400! should get thru to the semis, fingers crossed

Let's hope so. Huta Galung has just knocked out #3 seed Dick Norman, then Labadze though, so is obviously on form.

Well done to Alex. Hopefully he can get past Dutch young gun Huta Galung who got past Labadze who made the 4th round of a GS this year which was Wimby but tbh since then hasn't done anything notable.

So I'd suspect Boggo to get past Huta Galung in 3 sets at least at the very most. As the Dutch have some prospects coming through, going a bit off topic.

Wasn't it Huta Galung who beat James Ward in qualifying?

If so, he must be getting pretty tired having qualified and played 2 matches so far!

Go Boggo, great win against Petzchsner! Lets hope he's back on the video court for the remainder of the tournament!

Fantastic win for Boggo He's done really well to bounce back from the disappointment of last week. When I first saw this draw I thought he'd be lucky to win a round but now he's got a great chance of making the semis.

Petzschner was regarded as the big hope for the future in German tennis a couple of years ago, and he took a set off Greg Rusedski. However, he hasn't made the progress expected of him in singles and he's had quite a few injury problems. However, he would have been a tough opponent on home turf so Alex did well to see him off in straights.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some info from Mike on this match, if so I'll let you know.

Huta Galung beat James Ward 6-4, 6-1 in qualifying. His form this week has been superb, I'll post a new thread for the match

a good win, a triple break match is always nice and really promising is that a guy who broke moode at lest twice couldnt break alex.

even better is that alex still seems to be perfomring just as well overseas (well in eurpoe at least) as he has done in the uk in the past and thats a big step in the right direction.

Just spoke to Alex, he said that his first round match against Cilic was tough but he felt he played pretty well towards the end. Didn't say much else on tennis.
