That'll be his 2nd futures wildcard. His first was in an indoor futures in Bath earlier this year where he drew Lee Childs in rd1 and put up a creditable performance before losing 6-4, 6-1.
I think it's a great decision from the LTA, Willis would have surely played qualies here if he hadn't been involved in the doubles in Finland. It's good to see our top juniors being rewarded for doing well.
I think Evans must be giving this tournament a miss. The other wildcard must surely have gone to Slabinsky as he would have played qualies if he hadn't got one.
Pretty good performance from Rob Searle given how much higher his opponent was ranked. Disappointing that we only got two players through, I thought Irwin would win and after yesterday's shock win, I'm surprised that Kalaitzis didn't make it through, he's lost a lot of close 3 setters lately.
Finally a decent draw for Slabba, he beat Torresi in 3 sets indoors last year. Torresi also lost in straights to Ross Hutchins in Glasgow but he did take a set of Jerome Masson in France last week. He's also been beaten by Aucks and Delgy this year. His best result of 2006 was reaching the quarters of a challenger on outdoor hard in Recanti, he also had some good results in the India satellite earlier in the year. This really is a must-win match for Alex, given how much he's defending this week. Unfortunately, I can't see Burn upsetting Guez who could then face Alex in rd2
I can't really see Bamford knocking out Eleskovic unfortunately, the Swede is at his best indoors, has won a title, reached 3 semis and 3 quarters indoors this year. A couple of weeks ago he took a set off Joachim Johansson !!!
Cox and Willis mustn't be able to believe their luck !!! They've played once before, in qualifying for one of the futures in Nottingham in September - Cox won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. I think he has to be the favourite for this one.
Unfortunately for Simon Childs, King-Turner always seems to have his best results in GB - made 2 futures finals this year. Still, it's an ok draw given the strength of the field, hopefully he can give a good account of himself.
I'm pretty confident of Mackin reaching the final here, on recent form I'd say he's the favourite for the title
Great comeback from Mackin Maybe he was a little complacent in the first set and then realised he needed to up his level. I'll try and get some info on that match later.
Shame about Burn but that was pretty much expected. Guez has had some great results in challengers this year and will be hard to stop.
Slabinsky-Torresi is 1 set all. Don't know who took the 2nd set but hopefully it was Alex

I think it's a pretty tough looking field, Macca's got a good chance, but so has Guez, Huta Galung should be on a high after his Boggo beating exploits last week, King Turner's been doing pretty well I think, so wont be easy, but would be great if Alan could keep his Noittingham momentum going.
Oops, I forgot Huta Galung's in the field. I think that he, Macca and Guez are probably joint favourites. I don't think King-Turner will threaten those guys.
Superb win for Slabba, hopefully he can give Guez a good match tomorrow. At least, that means that the worst case scenario for 2006, is that he will finish in the high 700s. How many pts is he defending from GB 4 sat 2005 ?
