I suspect they get the points if they win their first match, but not if they lose it? A bit like the situation with byes, where people go straight into the second round but only get first round points if they lose.
A pretty good Tuesday for Boggo's ranking: Moodie, Bolelli, Berlocq and Fraile are all on the next flights home, significantly reducing the size of the chasing pack.
Not quite so good ahead of him: Schuettler and Muller both advance though only by a point or two.
A win tomorrow could send Alex up to 115th, but Kendrick, Hartfield, Pashanski and Vicente could all go straight back past if they win as well.
Gabashvilli takes on Johansson in the "Garden Shed grudge match" in Paris, and will overtake should he win. Saretta is a danger in Brazil.

Now I had him down as winning 10 points for that week: 5 for making the qualifying round, and another 5 for getting into the main draw, leaving him on 361 points - 6 up on the week.
However, both the ATP and steveg have him down as 356 points - which implies that he only got 5 points last week, and a look at the ATP points breakdown confirms this.
Steveg shows Basel qualifying as 1 point for a R2 defeat, 5 for a qualifying round defeat and 10 for qualifying
Does anyone know the rules for lucky losers? I've seen LLs in Masters Series get 43 points (8 points for reaching the qualifying round, then 35 points for winning R1, so those points do count in some tournaments?
The rule for lucky losers is that:
- you DO get main draw R1 points (5 in this case)
- you DON'T get extra points for qualifying (10 in Basel)
- you DO get points for reaching the final qualifying round (assuming you did get there and LL places didn't go back to the round before) but only in events where these points are awarded, i.e. Grand Slams, AMS and International Series Gold events
Basel is just a plain International Series event (you can tell by looking at steveg's schedule, though the dead giveaway is that there are three qualifying rounds - there are only two in ISG events) so there are no points for reaching the final qualifying round in Basel.
Hence the total of 5 points for Bolelli was correct and there was just a little error on the steveg site when it said that you got extra points for reaching the final qualifying round.

Oh good - so I had my calculations right, but I'd been misled by the SteveG points schedule..so Basel was an €850K International series event = $1million event = 250 points, as opposed to a $800K International gold event such as Vienna. And Steveg had put it down as the latter?

shame for Alex's ranking tho..... but I think the sacrifice is worthwhile
no i agree there, normally i hate seeing players over take alex, but of course there is the expection to make the rule. I dont think even Alex will mind in this case.
