RE: Tim's Competitors Week 44 - Paris Masters

I've updated the table. We'll have to wait until tomorrow morning for the Wawrinka- Gasquet result.

The table's looking quite empty now: Hrbaty and Benneteau advance. Benneteau  to just 3 points behind Tim

Meanwhile, Grosjean, Vliegen, Chela and Rochus go out ahead of Tim and Clement goes out behind.

There's just Benneteau, Ginepri and Mathieu  left to threaten Tim now. Benneteau needs to beat Ancic to overtake. Mathieu and Ginepri must reach the final.

Benneteau and Ancic are on court. It's 3-2 to Ancic with serve.

Remember, if Benneteau wins, Tim drops to 40th.

Ancic has taken the first set 63. Come on Super Mario!

Double brek in the second for Ancic: 4-0.    Hopefully Benneteau can't come back from this....

He Couldn't Ancic wins 6-3 6-1 .  Tim's one remaining threat is Mathieu who needs to win the tournament to overtake. Well after all those players getting past him on Monday, Tim's looking likely to end up where he started the week - at 39th, albeit with Benneteau breathing heavily down his neck.

Just the one ATP, I think: the seedings will be decided based on the rankings the week before the AO (which is weeks 3 & 4). So there's only the tournaments in week 1 that will count towards the seeding: Doha, Adelaide and Chennai.

It seems Mathieu saw us coming to get him before he won the tournament and decided to bow out gracefully with all limbs still intact. So Tim ends the week where he started at 39th.

A good day all round! Tim's last remaining threat, Mathieu get's knocked out by Robredo, who climbs up to WR 6 past Blake & Nalbandian.

So that's Tim surviving the week with more points on the board, and no ranking places lost.

I'll do an interim update of the table.

Edit: Done. Just the Hrbaty result to come.

Lets hope Tim is fit to play one of these and does well enough to scrape a seeding. That would really help him start the season with a few good points!

Thanks quite a feat.......tim must be reasonably pleased with 39 after the year he has had !

Been looking at the players defences for Week 1 and Malisse, Volandri and Vliegen will all go below Tim if they fail to defend their points which means Tim is going to be very near a seeding place!

Nice one seagull, I hadn't thought of that!

There's always a few withdrawals as well at the Ozzy Open, hopefully one or two will be ranked above Tim!

More importantly, Tim have to defend his Doha points (QF?)
