Bizarre following it on this site, well done to those who were trying to update in v difficult circumstances but v hard to follow when 5-2 down becomes 7-3 up !! Anyway well done, Boggo lets hope this show is back on the road!
Wasn't the absolute give away as to who was who in this match the fact that Al is left handed and has a one handed back hand?
The right result, a tad too exciting for a first round match! Al really needs to win a few more matches this week, but a second round match against Moodie is tough. I'm also suprised Moodie is now ranked so low. Has he been injured?
Is alan mackin playing this week? Is alan travelling with Al and Mike Raphael?
Moodie won ATP Tokyo in 2005 but this year he came up against a certain R.Federer in rd3 which put an end to his challenge and meant that he dropped about 60 places to the 140s.
Alan isn't playing this week, I think he'd planned a week off for this week to practise before Redbridge, Sunderland and Shrewsbury after so many weeks on the road. I think he could have got a SE into Aachen if he'd wanted [though I'm not entirely sure as although Alan reached the semis, that was on Friday and Aachen qualifying started on Saturday].
Alan usually travels with Alex and Mike but I think that Mike is heading with Alex for the next few challengers and they'll all link up again for Shrewsbury.
I'll try... Might have had to leave for my other job by then... Doing local radio show from 5-7 and have to get there early...
I would say Cilic probably had more power from baseline when Al let him hit his forehand, but Al played it to his backhand quite a lot. When Al stepped it up at the end of the third set he defo started to overpower him.
I think Cilic has more all around ability than say Roddick but doesn't have Roddicks potency on his main weapons
Gosh, you work on the local radio ? Must be pretty cool, is that a regular job ? What sort of show do you do ? Maybe you could suggest to them the idea of doing full coverage for one of the local challengers or futures, providing live commentary on the matches ?
It was impressive that Alex was able to find that extra gear at the end of the match, given some of the players Cilic has beaten this year. For a big guy, do you think Cilic struggled to get down to some of those slices Alex was hitting, as they'd keep pretty low on carpet.

Sadly its extremely local and only runs twice a year on a restricted licence. Its Wirral only, which doesn't have any tournaments, and take splace in March and October. I do drivetime, but don't wield any scheduling power unfortunately. Its radio 1 style chat and music on my show.
Cilic was struggling with Boggo's slice but his placement as well. He was pinned into the backhand corner quite often, and quite deep!
Should we have a new thread for Auckland v Stakhovsky and I'll change this thread's title to "Aachen challenger qualifying + Boggo v Cilic." Or should we wait until rd2 singles matches before starting separate threads for matches ?
I'm going to start a new thread for the doubles as both pairs are likely to get far here

Now you know how the Danes felt last week!
