In the semis Katie plays Germany's Tatiana Malek who's seeded 2 and ranked 150. Malek was very lucky against Amanda Keen in rd2 as Keen served for the match and held match point but Malek broke back and won the last 4 games to take the 3rd set 7-5. She beat Belgian qualifier Caroline Maes 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the quarters. They've played once before, in rd1 of this 25K last year and Malek won 6-2, 6-0 !
Malek has had a successful year, making four 25K finals [two on hard and two on clay], three 25K semis, one 50K semi and quarter and a 10K final. She's played two more Brits this year, beating Keothavong and Danielle Brown in straights.
From the LTA report it looks as though Katie was very unwell. She said she simply didn’t have the energy to play after being unwell for most of the previous night.
“I’m very rarely ill, but I don’t think I’ve ever been that sick,” the 20-year-old from Yorkshire said.
