Mian Chang Cup - G4 - Taiwan

Maybe stagger will be going to this tournament ? I haven't seen him on the board much lately, will have to email him.

Dan Cox and Josh Milton are playing here. They're seeded 2 and 3 respectively. Both crushed their rd1 opponents.

Rd1 results:

J Milton [GB][3] bt K Tsung [TPE] 6-0, 6-0

D Cox [GB][2] bt B Fang [USA][WC] 6-2, 6-0

Rd2:

J Milton [GB][3] v Chen or Al Cantara

D Cox [GB][2] v Y Chang [TPE]

The top seed here is probably the only threat to an all-British final, Josh is seedd to play him in the semis. He's the world no 49 in juniors

Cox wins 63 75!

Josh wins 64 62!

Hopefully we will have an all British final. If Cox wins and Josh is the runner up, they'll make some progress in the rankings.

Haha!

Both the boys are through to the finals! Dan won his match 75 62. Josh won his match 63 63.

The draws aren't working properly on my computer, so I have no idea about who they defeated. No idea about what happened in doubles either because of the same reason.

I am pretty confident that Dan will take this one.

Well done to Dan and Josh. I think they could both make the Aussie Open if they continue to play well in the last few juniors events of the year!

Superb stuff, any idea what this victory will take both of them up to in the rankings ?

They'd played once before, in a futures qualies in September. Dan won 6-3, 6-3

In the semis Dan's opponent had been ranked 197 and Josh beat the conqueror of the top seed [top seed was the junior no 49].

It can vary but I reckon around 133 and around 158 if they lost the doubles in the first round.

They also played in the domestic championships. Dan won in straight sets.

Lottery numbers please Greenleaf

That should mean that in January 2007, Dan will be ranked in the 70s and Josh will just about break the top 100.

Yeah, I'll give you the numbers soon.

Actually I think that we could have Cox, Dyce, Milton and Evans, all playing at next year's Junior USO.

Josh should play all the G4s in Asia before going to the States.

I agree, maybe Neil Pauffley might also make next year's US Open if he continues to make big strides.

One junior event which always puzzles me is junior Queens. As far as I know it doesn't have any ranking points available for it but is still a very prestigious title and attracts players in the world's top 10 in juniors yet every since 2003, it's always been won by a British player !! Boggo won it in 2003, then in 2004 it was Kasiri, in 2005 it was Kennaugh and this year it was Iain Atkinson who was outside the world's top 200. Whenever our juniors step onto the grass of Queens, they all seem to always play the tennis of their lives.

If the trend continues, Cox is probably the favourite to do it next year.

I agree, there's quite a few G4s in Asia before Eddie Herr and they're all fairly weak, Josh would have a pretty good chance of making at least the quarters, each time. However, I have a feeling he and Cox may return to Britain in November and play the GB futures.

I agree with the Pauffley part. He has been pretty solid during the last few months.

Here is a very good article on Neil : http://sport.guardian.co.uk/tennis/osm/story/0,,1766621,00.html

I tip Cox to win the US Open Juniors in the future. The way he has been following Andy's footsteps, it's a big possibility Gastao Elias will be huge threat.

The Queens junior event is a huge mystery. It doesn't have ranking points but it's prestigious as you say. What's really odd are that the draws are not available. Even though you have Livescores.

Cox could play there but he could also attempt to play in the qualies for Nottingham like he did this year.

Quarters won't affect Josh's points total. He will need to reach the finals.

Yeah, I too reckon that Dan will return to Britain. He could even try to qualify for the Challenger and you never know, he could get a wild card into the mains. Sadly he won't be able to defend his India point.
