" Alan Mackin WR 301 v Lukas Lacko (SVK) WR 234 ... 6-3 3-6 6-5* - Alan did break back then held from 0-40."

Blade called me back, it is certain now. We've just given Carlsen fans a heart attack though - the perils of the 4-character score system we set up, unfortunately - but poor blade's thumbs wouldn't survive anything else, I'm sure.

LOL

I think you were responsible though for perhaps one of the best quotes ever posted on a tennis forum:

"I think that at the start of each tournament the LTA ought to lock all the Brits up in a room, fill it with Union Jacks and make them sing the National Anthem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. Then show them photos of their opponents and make them growl at them for half an hour !"

And also...Mike Raphael on how to improve British tennis "The LTA needs to work out what these top guys are taking and then give it to our players."

Ace, glad you remembered that one, i got the idea off of the simpsons when bart has to play one of the flanders boys at crazy golf.  I really do believe it would make a difference though.

from Steven on MTF

"Report on the end of the Mackin match:

Alan broke back to make it 5-5, went 0-40 down on his serve, won 5 points to make it 6-5*, then was game points down on Lacko's serve, got it to deuce each time and then took his 1st match point.

Apparently Lacko didn't get unusually tight in the end, Alan just opened up and didn't miss a thing.

Anyway, brilliant way to end the match, Alan seems to be on fire at the moment."

That's fantastic from Mackin, what a comeback All the Scottish players are real fighters, they all seem to produce their best tennis when the going gets tough, must be the celtic fire in their veins. Mackin's now going to be up to 270. He's really going places at the moment. Mike will be delighted.

Here's hoping for an all-British final !

All-GB final is impossible anyway, isn't it - Richard and Alan are both in the bottom half if I remember right.

Still, an all-GB semi would be very good if Richard can recover against Waske.

Lol, I was getting carried away in the euphoria of the Mackin win. I was away for about 20min then came back and cautiously scrolled down MTF following steven's text. When I saw that Mackin was 0-40 down at 5-5 and the match evidently ended on the next page, I feared the worst, amazing recovery.

Grrrr, hopefully Richard can get his serve together, he won't have many chances to break Waske so he needs to serve well.

Looks like it's going to be a Mackin - Waske rematch unless Richard can up his game
