What a turnaround in this match. I wish these guys would hurry up and finish though. There's the Boggo match and then Mike's going to ring me when he gets back to the hotel to give some info on the match. I'd like to play tennis at 8 but if these matches go on for too long, I'm not going to get the chance
He's comfortable coming in to the net, quite a decent serve, pretty powerful forehand.
The biggest thing with him is he blows very hot and cold, so can beat Baghdatis one week and then lose to Miles Kasiri the next (which he did last autumn in Southampton and sunderland).
He can even be spectacularly good and bad in the same game (sounds a bit like Boggo) so he's always a dangerous opponent.
He actually lost in the semi's of Junior Wimbledon to Federer several years ago, so he's pretty comfortable on fast surfaces.
I spoke to James Auckland about him and he said he doesnt like playing him because when he's starts losing he gets really mad and starts shouting at people, the umpire, his opponent & himself and its difficult to keep your concentration, he beat Aucks at Wrexham I think the day after I spoke to him.
I still expect Boggo to beat him having said all that, and it could be very easy if Vico's brain is elsewhere, or it could be a real tough game.
As this is a 'disposable' thread, maybe you could copy this across to the Boggo v Vico thread?
Thanks for the info Bladetiger, Vico sounds like he's got a good game for fast courts and that definately shows in his results, all his best results have come on fast surfaces. He won the Togliatti challenger indoors in July and then made the Cardiff challenger final in April and also the Dublin challenger semis on artificial grass in June. He also got to a couple of challenger quarters at the start of the year. However, since Togliatti he hasn't been particularly impressive, he lost in rd1 in Orleans, Grenoble and Mons. Last week in Rennes, he won a bizarre match against Lisnard in rd1 [lost the 2nd set 6-0 and then won the 3rd set 6-0 !] before losing in straights to Patience in rd2.
Alex will need to get to the net quite a bit in this match, because the ball stays so low on the Kolding courts it's very difficult to make good passing shots, so the player who is able to take control of the net has a big advantage. Mike says that it'll take Alex this match before he's fully got used to the courts as they're so weird !
I don't think Alex will be particularly fazed if Vico starts throwing tantrums, he always stays very calm in matches, never particularly takes notice of what the opponent is doing from what I've seen.
