He's comfortable coming in to the net, quite a decent serve, pretty powerful forehand.
The biggest thing with him is he blows very hot and cold, so can beat Baghdatis one week and then lose to Miles Kasiri the next (which he did last autumn in Southampton and sunderland).
He can even be spectacularly good and bad in the same game (sounds a bit like Boggo) so he's always a dangerous opponent.
He actually lost in the semi's of Junior Wimbledon to Federer several years ago, so he's pretty comfortable on fast surfaces.
I spoke to James Auckland about him and he said he doesnt like playing him because when he's starts losing he gets really mad and starts shouting at people, the umpire, his opponent & himself and its difficult to keep your concentration, he beat Aucks at Wrexham I think the day after I spoke to him.
I still expect Boggo to beat him having said all that, and it could be very easy if Vico's brain is elsewhere, or it could be a real tough game.
As this is a 'disposable' thread, maybe you could copy this across to the Boggo v Vico thread?
alex is playing great and has a good record vs vico, he once again came from behind to then thrash lopez today and in so many of his matches he has come from behind recently that i think even if vico were to take a lead it wouldnt faze him.
it impssobile to tell whats been changing with alex, we saw great play at the start of the year, but then it fizzled out, perhaps down to a mix of 2 serious injuries and tough grass draws, but he seems back to his best now.
i think his week with brad will have really lifted him, maybe he is using his brain more in matches, for a long time alex hasnt had a game b plan, perhaps he is devloping one now. I think the big thing with him is confidence and that is what he is full of right now.
if there were a dc tie next week, the could be no question who would be in the team even afetr isreal, and surely it is starting to look promising.
the only down side is that is seems to be at the same ime as gregs decline, it looked like we would get 4 GS MD entrants at the same time!! but this is looking less lilkey. Alex has a host of indoor points to defend, soon, with sunderland, bergamo and wrexham but he played so few tournamnets around them that he should over all be able to cover them too. He is proving that indoors he can play, what we want to see soon is that the can outdoors as well.

In general I'd agree with you, but I think that his slump was also due to the disappointment of the DC, after that he took 3-4 weeks off, and then lost R1 when he came back.
Given that, I still think there is a huge question mark over whether he would be given the chance to play Dc again, and maybe an even bigger one over whether he should do even if asked.
Alex has spoken oin more than one occasion of how he hates the fact that in DC he has more people worrying about whether he is winning than just himself and particularly that he isnt just playing for himself, so there's no guarantee that his Dc form will ever improve and I think John Lloyd would need a lot more convincing before he picked him again.
Well reading alex last interview he said he really wants to be in the dc team, if he genuinley didnt want to be in the team then i dont think he would say anything there, but his words where farily strong in wanting to be in. also if he is getting on well with brad and and brad is involved, obvciously, with andy but also alan mackin, miles kasari, i think jamie baker too then isnt it looking more like JL could be just a figure head on the team.
i also know that he really did hurt himself during that dc match, he tore a hip muscle and i belive at one point it was even considered he might need surgery. And in his match vs okun in NY his movement wasnt great as it was still not right. To be honest since then his only dissapointing result was the match vs stoppini.

on a differnt note, the event is being played against a red back ground, and quite a few players seem to be weraing red too, maybe a tactical decisosn there??

the match b4 alex's is currently on court, minar appears to be making short work of montcourt and is currently serving at 4-0, 40-0 up. maybe montcourt cant get used to the speed. thats 5-0 now, so might not be too long till boggo is on.

moncourt is just about holding but can get no where near minars serve, would be suprised if this goes into a 3rd as he will need to serve twice to sat in it, first one now....
