RE: Boggo's competitors week 42

Waske won 6-1, 6-4

I make that a good result, but you think otherwise Rob C

Waske took it 61 64 in the end. He overtakes, and Boggo's down to 116th.

Llodra's  up next, playing Dick Norman. He can't overtake yet, but will if he reaches one round further than Alex. If Norman wins this, knocks out Waske next round, then loses to Boggo in the finals we're looking good.

I'll tell you when I know what Boggo's result is - it's good assuming he can repeat his Sluiter victory.

Grrrrr.  Llodra wins and moves to just 12 points behind Alex.

Now Alex, just win the next three matches and make it irrelevant!

And the table's updated for Alex's loss.

So Waske's win turned out to have been bad news after all.  Now we'll need him to beat Llodra, who'll overtake tomorrow otherwise.

Next up is Pless & Carlsen.  A Pless win would be nice, otherwise Boggo's down to 117

Wouldn't you know it Carlsen choses this week to make his bid to be the Danish number 1.  He overtakes. Alex is 117th

Luckily, no -one else can overtake today.

Philippoussis and Delic in Calabasas and Hartfield, Guccione and Mello in Bogota come next tonight.

Will any of the threats to Boggo's ranking go out?

one thing that i have just thought of with regards to alex is that since his loss to delic in surbiton, he has only really lost to top 100 players, the only exeptions being twice to okun, but he was injured to some degree both matches, once to kidlemann, where i dont think he was matchfit, and once to stoppini - god knows what happened here, bad day at the office i guess.

this is all surely a good sign as i cant remember the last time he was totaly out classed and not with a chance, well maybe rafa,

Overnight results are onto the table:

a threat finally goes out Unfortunately it's Mello and Guccione who were the main hopes for knocking out Hartfield, who advances in Bogota.

In Calabasas,  Kendrick puts some distance between himself & Alex, Philippoussis moves to one win away from overtaking, and  Delic takes out top seed Udomchoke.

Worst case for Alex is now to drop to 121st. All four of those left behind him can overtake.

Looks like it's the week to gain significant points for those ranked between 110 and 140

Next today,  Llodra  vs  Waske:   come on Alex Waske!

Llodra's the next to go past Boggo. He beats Waske and will take on Sluiter in the final.

Allex is down to 118th

That's the end of the European threats for Alex now. Next up are Philippoussis, Hartfield and Delic across the Atlantic.

Wouldn't you know it. All three won. Philippoussis overtakes and sends Boggo down to 119th.
Hartfield is the last seed left in Bogota, and just needs to beat Koellerer to push Alex down to 120. Delic  takes on Philippousis in the Calabasas final. If both win, Alex will be 121st on Monday

This has to be the worst week for a British player since we've started doing the tables, I don't remember any other time when soo many competitors won.

Come on Boggo, win Nottingham next week and jump past them all again.

The only good thing to come out of the week is that there's now only seven players within 20 points of Alex behind him (only five if/when Hartfield & Delic overtake), while there's now seven within 10 points ahead of him (nine once they overtake). So he's well placed to make it up.

Well wouldn't you know it: Llodra beat Sluiter in the final.

.......which means that when the points he'll be defending next week drop off, they no longer drop him below Boggo (It's really not Alex's week!)

to be honest tho, llodra was always likely to rise up the rankings - he's a good player, prob better than sluiter, so maybe not such a bad thing in the long run!
